CaymanS on the streets of LA
|
|
|
|
Nice shots...were you there? Thanks for the sneak-peek!
|
I like the side air intake gills. Also noted the use of the yellow caliper covers.
Good lines overall...wonder when we'll see road test results. |
Very nice from the back, not so from the sides I think!
Cool photos, Porsche will be ripped when they hear about it. You saw it HERE ON 986FORUM first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I do not like the look and feel of the new shift knobs Porsche has designed for their new cars. Reminds me of the nasty round one I yanked out of my 1997 the second I found one on Ebay with which to replace it.
|
Soooo Beautiful!!
|
It definitely has a profile problem, and the front foglights look too trendy for me. The air intakes now look like Porsche is copying Hyundai rather than Toyota though. :)
|
Funny, I count seven grown men in the photos and not a single one is it DRIVING it! Somebody hold me back...
|
the rumor is they are shooting a commercial in LA right now.
I really dig the side and back. I don't care for the front and interior at all. THose are the ceramic GT3 brakes with the yellow calipers. Molto dinero! The more I see this car the more I'm convinced that this will be the new flag ship of Porsche sports cars. Once they retire the GT3 SuperCup you'll be sure to see this car onthe track racing. |
|
I love the body style. I would really go for it if the pointy head were flattened out somewhat, a la speedster. I edited the side view with this in mind... now how do I upload an image? Lets see if this works

The LA sightings haven't revealed any pics yet. If you live near Westwood keep your digital camera handy if they haven't already finished shooting the commercial. |
I don't get the bubble top at all. Now they can't even put a sunroof in it.
They should've made it a notchback. It's too 911/Bug/TT/Crossfire looking. A notchback would've made it look a little more Boxster, which we all know is badass looking. :D Whoever designed the wheels should have their ass kicked. The side vents look even worse than the 987. The rear quarter panel that goes down at a 45 degree angle doesn't work on the 987 and doesn't work here either. Rear quarter windows should've been a little longer. Foglights are lame. 987 front end looks better. Ugly interior with even uglier steering wheel. Nice square glovebox. LOL. Performance-wise, it'll kick ass. But looks-wise, it doesn't move me at all. - |
i like it
call me easily influenced, but it just LOOKS fast....trendy or not.
|
I think it looks good...thyough what's the point of a Boxster that the roof doesn't go down on???
|
Gill & Foglight Deletion
I think the car looks cool. Here are a couple revisions. Lose the gills and shift inlet back and up slightly, and 86 the foglights -as such...

Jeph can you put the 911 Turbo healdights on it too?!
|
Delaers are now taking deposits in the uK - brochures are out. Launch date here 26th Nov.
Base price is £34k (compared to £32k for the 2.7 and £38k for the 987 S ) Leather and 18" alloys std. |
Xavier: You got it! Your's looks like the changes they need to make to dump the TT-top. Your's makes it look like Pinnin-Farina (sp?) got the final sketches. Love it...
..and Jeph: I'll bet the aftermarket guys are already drooling over the changes they can offer. Those 'fogs' are the first thing to unbolt. Good work guys. jim |
I think it looks good, especially the inside but I also agree that it is a little TT'esque. I guarantee once someone throws some staggered deep lip type wheels on it everyone will be wanting one.

The more I look at it the more I like it. Does anyone know what this is going to cost in it's diff configurations???? |
i hate to admit it...this car kicks a**!!
great pics! |
I just got done reading about the car in the latest Autoweek(Cayman S). Porsche claims a top speed of 171mph and a 0-62mph time of 5.3 sec. These figures seem a tad conservative(particularly the 0-62 time seeing that a 987 S will do 0-60 in 5 flat). Strangely enough, the Cayman S weighs 11lbs more than a 987 Boxster S. They attributed this somewhat to the large rear hatch with the big plate of glass. Also, the Cayman S has the 3.4L engine so the car is probably beefed up more in certain places.
|
From the looks of the pic with the rear lid up, this is fer sure going to be a car you can only work on from the bottom side. You will need arms like a chimpanzee to get at anything from the top.
A good looking car in any event, although I think I could do without the round fog lights. Let's see, if I can peddle my '99 for about $25k, that would only leave me about $40k short ... oh well, maybe a used one in a few years. |
Love the new design. The retro theme on the Carrera GTS is obvious as per the website intro. Its a shame they didnt go for the top down option such as the SLK or the new Lexus with the 3 part folding tin top, but still a great looking car.
I believe the opening price in Australia is around the $160,000 mark which puts it line ball with the new Boxster S at around $152,000. Going to be very interesting where this sits in the market and with enthusiasts. |
tell your mates that this is the new 911.
Porsche have to retire that dinosaur at some point! |
The 911 is a fine car and I don't see it going anywhere. There is plenty of room in the line for these cars; Zealots are each side are .......well, zealous!
Horses for courses! Quote:

well its like when the airforce retired the Blackbird.
It was still the fastest plane to cross the country but time to move on. Either Porsha will unleash the Cayman on the racing scene and potentialy upstage the 911 or .... http://image48.webshots.com/49/8/17/...4ISWgLy_ph.jpg |
on the street the CaymanS kinda looks like the Maserati GranSport
(my favourite coupe) http://www.maseratinet.com/IMAGES/gransport_geneva.jpg |
Maserti sure knows how to style, no?
 |
wow
These are great pics- I put a deposit on one today and the more I see the more I like! I cant wait!
|
I just saw new pictures of the Cayman in Car and Driver. Based on THOSE pictures, I really hated the car's looks.
Did anyone else see those pics and if so, what do you think? The back end reminded me of a 93 RX 7! |
RX7? uggh...A P-Car should never be confused with a Japanese sports car!
Porsche should call up Maserati and ask them to put in those GranSport headlights. They really droped the ball on those 987/997 headlights. If not the GranSports, maybe The new Aston Martin headlights which are nice too, as are the Ferrari 575 GTC. http://www.rapidcars.com/images/575gtcfront.jpg http://www.astonmartins.com/gaydon_vh/images/DSCN0899.jpg |

I'm not sure that Maserati is doing too bad. They are afterall rebranded Ferraris. And today's Ferrari's are without question the best the little company have ever produced and their sales, like Porsche, have gone to record highs. Here in NYC we had a Ferrari/Maserati show in Rockefeller plaza and I was able to see them load all the cars back onto the transports. THe Maseratis are something to behold and hear. I'll take one in Pearl white with Blue stripes please. :p

I agree- It was only on certain occasions that I really enjoyed the conv. of the boxster that I recently sold- maybe because mine was triple black and was really hot most of the time! :) I loved my boxster but I think I will love my new Cayman more with the extra power that I think we all know that the boxster deserves and can easily handle! We will see- my local dealer is telling me that I am looking at a march - april delivery and I think that is going to be a very long wait....
