I am getting sick of all the boxster issues and cost of ownership. the worry of the engine blowing up every time i take it for a drive is ridiculous. I can get a loaded MR touring brand new with leather , nav and the more mature looking touring model , plus a twin clutch tranny for just under 40k . Have bulletproof performance and no worries at all . are any of you guy familar with the evo x and what are your thoughts on this vehicle ?
Wow how low has Porsche's reputation sank to consider "upgrading" to a Mitsu for peace of mind & reliability! I understand your thought process & I have thought about buying a EVO so I have a sedan to go with my boxster, bought a IS350 because of Lexus reputation & EVO depreciation. Just got IS350 back from dealer doing 3rd recall in 3 yrs., this time valvesprings recalled. I also agree with you that the Boxster is more fun to drive so I would just get your IMS bearing upgraded & enjoy the Boxster. It will be more cost effective to upgrade the car you have than to buy anything new.

I'd rather have a broken Porsche than a well running Evo.

Because "Evo's 0-60 time is 4.7 Sec. and it is an AWD car, That is fast."

Fast doesn't mean it's enjoyable. Enjoyment is harder to measure and with the new generation kids raised on Playstation, cars like Nissan GT-R is desirable because it fixes all the mistakes you make with AWD & computers and you can brag to your friends how fast your car can do in the Ring.

think about it ? if you had to replace your Boxster with a reasonably priced performance oriented car what would you choose? The new 1 series M coupe looks good but that will be 50K . evo's , STI what else is there ?

I think the fun factor of the Boxster is damn hard to beat. Sure you can find faster, more gadgets, etc., but overall these cars are awesome and a total blast to drive.

I've been a die hard year round motorcyclist for over 40 years. I have 3 in my garage now. I have 2 Triumphs, a Rocket 3 and a Thunderbird Sport and then I have nice little Kawasaki 250 Duel Sport for putting around in the mountains.

Since I bought my first Boxster, I have been very bad to my motorcycles. They often sit in the garage crying and begging me to ride them. I do ride them, just not as much since the Boxster. I call my Boxster the 4 wheeled motorcycle. I now have 2 Boxsters. They are just that exciting and impressive to drive. I can imagine that only a good Ferrari would be more fun to drive then a Boxster. (Although, I hear Ferraris are a maintenance nightmere to own.)

An 04 VW R32 is one I can think of. Build quality on par with porsche or BMW and a total blast to drive. Really clean low mile R32's go for 17-20,000.

Boxster (and Porsche probably in general) are not for the weak of heart.

With me it's not the IMS I'm worried about. It's all other problems.
I got the car cheap.. it passed PPI ("post" purchase inspection) with flying colors

However since then.. something always breaks.
It started with ignition switch, then engine mount, then 60K (fuel filter/belt), then one of the wheel bearings went out, now the second one is out, then AOS failed, then Power Steering pipe broke...
Now I have a vibration while driving (no ideea what it is)

I changed everything DIY (thanks to this site) I learned a lot.. but I spent a lot of time fixing it.

It's still worth it for me.. it was a dirt cheap car.. and I looooove it

quote"The car is fast and handles great it will embarrass a Boxster on and off the track"

Doesn't matter how fast it is - it's still just a ricer. The embarrassment is being seen driving one. Nothing quite says "wannabe" like one of those crap cans.

+1 to that!
