Appropriate glue for convertible top?

Hi all,

My top fabric has disconnected from it's plastic attachment point below the rear window on the -vert top.

It appears to have been glued in place. Does this sound correct?

Can anyone point me in the direction of the appropriate glue? I see this on Pelican Prts. "Wurth Rubber Glue" for $20.

P.s. During normal operation of my top, I can occasionally see a little daylight through the back-bottom-middle of the top. Upon closer inspection, I realized I could lift up and edge and slide a finger or two through. That's the extent of the disconnect. The top fabric appears in great shape, and with a light plastic polish the rear window is in good shape as well.

The glue you talk about is maybe the sealant that Porsche uses when they make the Top, it also should have stitches around the window. There's a guy in New York that will repair it correctly for $350.

I've seen the stitching around the window, but the point of seperation on my car is down by the very base of the rear-middle of the soft-top. Can that area also be stitched? I thought it mounted onto hard plastic "rib", but maybe I'm wrong and will investigate further.

This will sound strange but it works great when used correctly and allowed to set up. In the past I've had this issue and used of all things used...



It is super strong and water resistant,

Just make sure the area is clean and dry. I used duct tape to hold the material in place while the glue sets up. let it sit overnight.

You can get this everywhere like Walmart, target, sears, drug stores....

I have also used this with a cloth patch backing successfully on tears and holes on convertible tops.

Just make sure to use some tape on the outside of the tear to prevent the goo from leaking thru the hole while the glue sets.

Use the 3M spray on glue. Follow the directions, only about 30 minutes work time. when you glue the fabric, be sure to pull it hard in the horizontal direction to avoid vertical creases.

Shoe Goo is awesome stuff. When I installed my new top I used contact cement where adhesive was required.

Just to clarify, I would most likely not use this product to replace and install a new top. But it does very well for repairs.
