Camshaft/Hall Sensor

Afternoon all,

I recently had a service on MY53 Boxster S and one of the faults which came up on the diagnostic was a failure of the Camshaft/Hall Sensor.

My question is, if this sensor had failed wouldnt I have had the Check Engine Light come on?

I wouldnt have said i had noticed any particular loss of power in the car either.

many thanks.

is it a US car or RoW? it's my understanding that the US cars will trip a MIL light on pretty much any error code, but that the RoW cars will RARELY trip a MIL light, even if there are multiple errors.

Thanks for the reply!

It's a row car, I'm from England.

So maybe on that understanding the ECL won't appear even if one of the camshaft sensors has failed.

Does anybody know what work is involved when replacing the camshaft sensors? Is it a case of just removing and replacing or do you need to reset the ecu, realign the camshaft etc etc.

Many thanks

Have you tried asking Hartech - they have a very good rep for the M96 engine. They are not too far away from you in Bolton.

Hope this helps

Go to Pelican Parts then go to Boxsters. Look up part and click on catalog and view images, this will show you where it is on the engine. I believe you can replace it yourself. The part is around $150 US.
