So, Jake, that being said, do you still recommend that even this aftermarket pump be replaced on the same 3-year schedule?

YES.
Better safe than sorry.

Sounds good to me, just figured I'd ask.

How is it better? Just curious...

Bump, as I'm curious the type water pump Jake sells.

This thread is nearly 2 years old...

However, I bought a water pump from JR 3 years ago and when it arrived, found it's a genuine Porsche water pump - identical part # to my original.....

Yes, but Jake is still around.

bar10dah 08-03-2012 04:11 PM

TennisGuy, I know it's a long shot that you're still here. But if so, what was the outcome of your engine?

Jake and others: what about water pumps with metal impellers?

bar10dah 08-04-2012 05:31 AM

The vast majority say stick with plastic. It's the lesser of two evils...

RandallNeighbor, coming through Houston next week. How do I access that crazy HOV/toll lane? Is it always via pass? Or at certain times, can anyone drive on it?

As I understand it these are rather cheaply made parts, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're at more risk of failure of the component overall as opposed to just the impeller in that case, not that either is desirable. I think if the ones with a metal impeller were that good there'd be much more talk of them and their impressive performance.
