Hmmmm, I have a very similar sound emanating from my other German roadster. I thought it might be coming from my wheel spacers, my 2 piece wheels are a little out of round, usually I can loosen then re-torque the wheel nuts and the sound would go away for a while... however after reading all this I'll have to have my mechanic investigate the pinion gear & ring gears.
