Headlights 996 with levelling system

Hi does anyone know if you can fit the 996 clear headlight with levelling system into Boxster. Same shape but the 996 have a auto levelling system in them can you disconect this system or swap over the guts for amber lights without levelling system as I have tried to fit them and they just go in like all other lights do but blinkers won't work or high beam ?? Anyone had this problem before.. Before anyones says blown bulbs no is not...have old amber lights so also tried taken all amber light wiring out and putting in clear 996 light but same things happening and then put 996 wiring into amber light and guess what same problem. so wiring went back into where it come from and amber lights working again and back in car.. Don't know what to try next any thoughts???? Or just won't work????

pre-2002 996 lights will fit into 986s. The auto level system for the HID though is complex and uses a series of sensors to gauge vehicle position. It's possible to install them, but not practical due to sensor locations (they are not located w/in the light assembly and typically are on/by/near the rear 'axle' of a vehicle).

Ok, I'm new here but I have a 99 boxster with litronics installed (not from the factory) and they self-level. They tip up when they start up and they move up and down when going up and down hills.

First of all, I'm assuming you're talking about not just the clear halogen headlamps, but the Litronic/Xenon set up, which comes from the factory with a self leveling feature. If your headlamp has an eyeball like projector like the pic of my Litronic headlamp shown below, they are the factory Litronic option. I did such a swap in my car, and even though I did not hook up the self leveling wiring, the headlamps still work normally with the following exceptions:

1) If you don't hook up the self leveling wiring and control box, you will need to manually aim your headlamp beam up, because in the factory set up, the beam is turned down when off, and when you turn on the headlamps, the eyeball beam moves up to the right level after communicating with the sensors. Without the wiring, you won't get any movement of the eyeball, so you have to manually set the beam aim where it will remain fixed.

2) With the wiring, when you turn on your high beams, the high beam will swivel up 2 degrees to help the low beam spread a better beam of light so that you can see further ahead. Without the wiring, you'll still have the low beam and high beam, but without the swivel feature, you won't have as good a light spray when you turn on your high beams.

All the lights (hazards, high beam, parking lights), should work fine by just popping the headlamp in, even without the sensor wiring though.

Sorry it may be me but the story is I won a right hand clear light witch read 2000 996 headlight will fit 97 to 04 boxster aswell so I bid and won because I already had the lefthand clear light to replace the amber ones.....So the left hand light went in and no problems one out one in all good..... So the right hand light goes in and the blinker don't work and the high beam don't work so light came out checked bulbs all good but there's more wiring and one extra plug on the male conector that plugs in when pushed home and inside the light housing a black box where the extra wiring goes to levelling system.. So unpluged that conection put light in and still no blinker or high beam...So pull light out, pulled all wiring from old amber light and put in thinking the old amber wiring would now bypassing leveling system but even this didn't work still no blinker or high beam..So gave up pulled all clear light out and put amber ones back in and not happy.... I didn't know but I'm thinking because its out of a 996 with levelling system which won't not mentioned this won't work in the Boxster... Yes on ebay say it would fit and yes it does but don't work....why..... only confused you more????? lights only have the normal bulbs no HID ect....

No, they do not "self level", they are simply swinging up to fill in the high beams, and also tilt up and down at start up. “Self leveling” is only available on factory installed lits, and continuously adjusts the headlight beam angle to match the car's tilt and pitch angles (required is certain European countries). “Self leveling” feature is nearly impossible to install post delivery due to the complexity of the wiring and sensor set up. A quick way to discern factory lits from post delivery installs is to connect the car to either a PST II or PIWIS unit, which can run diagnostics on the factory systems, but not the post delivery installs..............

when i got my car, there was a problem with the passenger side light - the low beam worked but the blinker, fog lights and high-beam did not. turned out to be the connector in the light holder. there was a small piece of plastic that broke off that held the end in place. when the headlight assembly was pushed in, the connector was not allowing full contact. $170 @ porsche dealer with labor. three parts:
999-650-150-40 ( connector housing ) $15.68
999-652-832-40 ( connector housing ) $12.57
999-631-246-00 ( headlight fastener ) $9.45
