Cel P0453

My car is throwing the P0453. It was nice not having the CEL for a few months...
So the code is for the tank pressure sensor. I was reading up on this and some people have suggested that I try a new gas cap. I'm pretty sure the one one there now is from factory and it would be the cheapest and easiest attempt at remedying the situation. Anyone else have other ideas?

No issues with anything like that. I just ordered a new cap with the .03 digits in the part number so I think thats the one that is the most recent. I will see if that fixes it. In case it doesn't, however, I just wanted to see if there was anything besides the sensor it could possibly be.

Unfortunately, I’d be willing to bet that a new cap is not going to cure this problem. P0453 is the code for an excessively high tank pressure; usually bad caps cause the opposite problem. More likely, you have either a bad pressure sensor or vent valve in your EVAP system……….

grab a set of schematics and a DMM and check the voltage coming back from the sensor.

it should be about 2.5v -- if it deviates significantly == than you have
a sensor telling you something is up. you can't tell if the sensor
is bad or not.

if you changed the harness from original - there could be a pin out issue.

I got the car a couple years ago and haven't messed with the harness. The is the first P0453 I have gotten. So that pretty much means that the harness pin out issue would not be the problem right? I remember reading somewhere online about a similar issue with the harness but I believe that guy had recently changed something with it.

Silly question...where does the rivet go in the gas cap area? I have a 2000 boxster s if it matters.
