Gauge Face Question

*** BEFORE & AFTER PICS UPLOADED *** Tomorrow I am going to have my gauge faces changed from black to silver (NA Auto version). I have read in some places that I should take off the negative terminal before removing the gauge pod.

So here is my question:

Do I HAVE to remove the negative terminal to make this work? If I don't, will I fundamentally screw up my pod?

I just don't want to if I don't have to (lose all presets, settings, xm will have to be reflashed, etc.) I don't have the stock radio in, I have a Pioneer AVIC-N3.

Thanks for any input!

You're fiddling with electrical plugs. At least three.

I'm guessing that if you have the key out you'll be ok since you're not fiddling with the airbags, but resetting the stuff you mentioned is not that big of a deal compared to swapping gauge faces and getting the needles back on in the right spots.

I did a write up on it on my web site, btw.

What a pain in the butt.

Thanks Randall -

I am done and VERY pleased with the results. I went with the Aluminum faces and I am really quite pleased with them. The fit and finish is fantastic.

Would you mind posting pictures? I'm kind of interested.

Sure ... here are the pics. If you notice, I had to do it because I am importing the car from Canada and had to go from KM/H (on the old) to MPH (on the new).

I had to have them professionally done so that I had certified documentation for the border. Cost me $125 Canadian and about an hour of waiting.
