2nd gear linkage

I got a 2000 S and I finally want to try alternatives to having my transmission opened in order to fix my 2nd gear grinding issue. I want to check the linkage but I have no idea how. I have a Bentley manual, but it doesn't seem to help. I also looked around the forum (and the internet) but couldn't find any type of useful instructions. I was also told that the engine mount may be the culprit. How likely is that? It was replaced around 40k ago.
