This method for circumventing the parking brake switch does not work. Just a couple weeks ago I had to replace mine. I got it at pelican parts for $8 shipped ($5 for part and $3 for snail mail shipping). I already had the part installed when on my own thread somebody mentioned this trick. Well it was too late for me since I did it the way it said in the manual, but I just went out to check it and it doesn't work. I was pretty sure I had actually tried that before I removed the the top manually. The switch does more than just illuminate the light. It goes through another circuit to allow the motor to engage. I have a 2000 boxster S. The best thing I would say that is closer to this is what somebody already recommended which is to take the switch out (you will need a T20 and T30 I believe) and close the circuit with a safety clip or something. That way it will emulate the switch being activated.
