I'm thinking of bidding $1. Think I can get it?

I dunno - it looks a lot more reasonable to me that most cars that pretend to be something else. At least they kept it in the Porsche family, and it would indeed be cheaper to maintain than a real one.

I actually would like to have one of the originals after seeing Anthony Hopkins drive one out of the hanger in the movie "Fracture" - very impressive.

Is this any less appropriate than, say, a Beck 550?

Hmmm, actually a very good question.
Here's my take: The Beck is totally true to the original.
The proportions are right, the sound and the performance are right, it just handles a little better...

Making a Boxster look like a Carrera GT - well - everything is off, starting from the proportions of the car down to the performance.

So I'd say they're not even in the same ballpark.
I'd be embarrassed to be seen in this monstrosity, but I'd be glad if anyone would see me driving a Beck

Yes, by a lot in my book. I'd be horrified to be seen in a Boxster with a Carrera GT body kit. I'd love to own a Beck, but to me a Beck is just that.....a Beck. A replica of the original that performs better. I wouldn't try to hold it out as a real 550.
