Are you talking about the ruberized coating on the console?

If so mine was all scratched as well. I took out the console and removed all the rubber. It looks 100% better and now matches the ash tray. It has a nice texture under that awful coating. My arm rests were already free of any rubber when I got it.

I used hot water and a green scouring pad to remove it. Took a good hour of scrubbing in the kitchen sink. I also used some alcohol which seemed to help. The key was the hot water.
