How many will now be adding the Porsche side stripes to their cars?

176 pounds isn't that great of weight reduction, though I like the concept (always thought the radio wasn't necessary in my car).

I think it'd fun to make one lose 400-500 lbs...and stick a Raby 3.6 in it; that would be a screamer!

Wonder if they'll jack the price sky high like they did with the 997 Carrera Classic.

Wow! Nice little package.

Rear LSD, 20mm lower, 320hp 3.4L engine, etc...

All this for the same price as a Boxster S! I never use AC in my Boxster, but I surely hope they retained the heat (up here in Ottawa, Canada driving in Nov/Dec can get really cold!)

I wonder how much these will be used in 5-6 years?

You can order those seats in any Boxster. Also you can buy them from Suncoast for any 987/997 ($6K - ouch).

Yes I know, but this is cheaper in a way... with standard 19"s, LSD, lowered, etc.

$58 for a S with no option vs $61.2 MSRP fully loaded...

BUT no roof & no A/C ... chick in the passenger seat may not like that.

My question is whether my local PCA chapter will allow this car on the track. They don't allow cabs to be on the track with the top down. Will this one pass with the "inclement weather" cover on the car?

Is the direct injection motor still a M96?

I'm gonna salivate over whatever they bring out that is mid engine and doesn't have the M96 variant motor in it. (Well, that's not totally true. I won't be panting for a turbocharged four cylinder VW engine that is rumored to be added to the boxster lineup next year)

Porsche doesn't sell any cars with the M96 any more.

are you guys serious?
OK, I like 320 bhp - no problem

But otherwise this car looks like a "ricer's dream" to me
And pay $6,000 extra for NO radio NO A/C and no electric top mechanism?
I can do that MYSELF MUCH cheaper

Let me get this straight. It doesn't have a real roof???? Just a "fly"?? Security, heat, weather protection?

$13K more than the base boxster, lacks a real roof and you have to assemble the roof each time you want it up, lacks AC (except that it shows AC in the on-line ad!!). 10 more HP than the S. I like the speed humps, but I'd pay more for the S (but IT costs less!!).

There have been many times that my power top button has prevented me form getting an untimely bath.

The concept is cool, but it just isn't practical except for someone that has money to burn.

It's Cayman with a carbon widebody kit and lots of other goodies...I kind of went off topic, but thought this was an awesome car. I guess when Porsche announces something like the Spyder, you get your hopes up; but it's just another marketing gimmick.

Totally digging the weight reductions and particularly the sports bucket seats! But couldn't they have at least put in a manual roof that's easier to fold up?

like the weight redux but they didnt even try. there is much more body fat on that porker! im mean sure it isnt a heavy car to begin with but if you only cut 174 i dont call that much of a weight reduction.

but i do think its gorgeous....

that car is for the guy with money to burn..who only plans to take the car out when the weather is perfect...

for REAL people, who will take the car ona trip, bring the wifey along...and just *might* hit some rain / really cold weather - and woudl wnat to put the top up on the fly...it's useless.

the "S" model is a better buy. the extra 10hp and less weight is not THAT much better. it does look cool...but this car is more about marketing and being able to have bragging rights.

honestly..it's barely 200 lbs lighter..that's enough to notice..but not so much to make it light years quicker. I think MOSt buyers woudl opt ot have the creature comforts and the extra 200lbs... if I wanted a true racecar..i'd get an old 986 and make a spec racer.... which woud likely eat this new car for breakfast on a track.

Doesn't the Lomborghini Murcielago Roadster have a ridiculous little roof thing like this that is only for roughly keeping the rain off? Maybe Porsche is just following suit. But like a Lombo roadster with no real top, this Boxster is meant to be a sunny weekend toy, not a daily driver. Who would buy a daily driver without AC or a radio? Absolutely it's pointless for every day use, that was not Porsche's intention!

Yes the weight savings should have been more, but from the styling you can tell where Porsche focused its efforts - the company wanted to make an exciting, wilder version of the Boxster. Most of the effort seems to have been expended on the visual appeal. In that area I feel they succeeded quite nicely.

I think Spyder looks great and if you can afford it - go for it.
It is a bit overpriced, kinda like the 911 Sport Classic, which by the way looks amazing.
If it were me (Im dreaming here) - I would be putting on that roof when I see a first cloud
P.S. 170 lbs weight savings is noticable, at least I can notice when I have a passenger.
