Hi folks.

I'm guessing this question has been asked many times, but what tyre pressures do people use in their Boxsters? I drive a 2003 'S' (usually very slowly) and am running 30/36 lbs. The car has 18 inch wheels with nitrogen filled rubber at present in its
Front: 225/40/R18
Rear: 265/35/ZR18
Falkon tyres.

I'd be very glad of your insights / ideas.
Thanks heaps.

Tires brand matching or?

My 02 S came with Yoko YK580 fr and S-Drive rears. As most boxsters my rears will need R/R soon. Fronts are almost new. Do most drivers stick with same brand at 4 corners or do you seek out other brands to get the better stickier tire? I'm liking the Hankook EVO and reviews rate them a little higher than the Yokos in the sticky dept. I can only assume the PO got different performance Yokos cause they probably didn't offer one in the other size. So, my question is would you drive a car with two different brands of tires front to back? Please advise. Thanks

Future Porsche Owner

I drove thru McD's this morning. When I got to the window, the gentleman said "I knew it was a Porsche." He told me he recognized the engine note over his wireless headphones. Put a smile on both of our faces. Taking the long way home tonight. http://www.986forum.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Sweet! Good luck with it. It does make one sleep easier.

I have driven a zillion cars and I must admit that the Boxster produces me an addictive need to rev it up, specially since I installed the custom exhaust.

Check the tire date. Mine came with 13 year old front tires!!!

I had EVO V12's. They wore pretty fast. Went with Conti ExtremeContact DW's this time.

It is usually better to match tires...but as they age balance will change anyway.

I have an 02S and 18 in tires, Michelin Pilot SS. I like to run a little harder, 32-34 psi front, 36 psi rear. But then, I this is for speed not cushy city driving...

Pleasures

Well since I've done the IMSB upgrade to the LNE Pro dual row for single row, I just feel so much joy (and confidence) taking it out with the top down and listening to the music behind me:) btw the old single row bearing was perfect, so go figure... 72K miles.

I have a Cayman S. I absolutely love driving this car it goes really fast and the wheels are very stylish too.

1st time owner and real first drive.......

Woke to a glorious sunny day - first real opportunity to take her out on a test run. Her is a 2003 Boxster with 25K in mint condition, blue with grey interior.
Brought it to "Matthew" speed on the 95 and as expected very stable and solid ride. When you bank into the cloverleaf it does truly feel like it's on rails. Perfect balance and amazing transition in turns. WOW!
It's not about the raw power off the line (like the Charger 392 - daily driver), but the finesse and ability to provide an awe inspiring level of confidence through telepathically conveyed information of the road beneath, and the surroundings with top down. It tells you what you can do precisely with confidence.
A DREAM TOP DOWN DRIVE.

Other cars owned: 2016 Charger 392, 2014 370Z,
Previously: 2015 Challenger, 2013 Chrysler 300, 2005 C6 Vette, 2 Nissan Maxima........too many

I've been driving the car almost exclusively with the top down since I bought it 5k miles ago, but over the past week I've been driving with the top up. It's funny how having the top up allows you to focus more on the dynamics of the car and less on the open-air experience. I feel like I've gotten to know a whole new side of the car, and have a new appreciation for how nicely it handles and drives. There's a reason why Caymans are so popular, even without the convertible top.

Perfect summary of the Boxster... it's that kind of awesome car :)

Any s turn on the county roads around me...especially when some idiot is riding up my azz because doing 55 in a 45 is not fast enough for them...then I come to the 's' turn marked for 35MPH and push past 60MPH and laugh as they don't dare keep up.

gvogelsan 03-19-2017 07:08 PM

I love driving both. I owed a 2008 Caymen base, loved it! Now, I have a 2000 Boxster S...guess what? I love it too. My Boxster S is actually faster than the 2008 Caymen. And, the 1st generation Boxster are tiny. In picture, old Boxsters look similar to a Mazda Miata, but when you see one up close, you see the Porsche lines and they no longer look like a Mazda. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1489978930.jpg

I added "Fuche-style" wheels (STARKE SC18), OEM clear lights and custom rear badging. I really like the classy Black and White colorway with a dash of red. Hope you like it too.

The STARKE SC18 are smooth at 90+.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1489979289.jpg
