coolant issues!!!!!!!!!

hi im a newby please help!
iv just got a 2000 S and the other day i noticed oil in the coolant but no coolant in the oil so i start look for the cause in meantime went out last nite and noticed coolant by rear wheel after a drive no lights or overheating waited for it to cool down and drove home no problems!
so today i tried to get remaining oil out of expansion tank
After reading forum after forum all i can put it down to is the heat exchanger but i rang porsheshop uk and they tell me the boxster hasnt got a heat exchanger so i am confused
can somebody please help???
wondering if anyone else has had this problem

from one Newby to another. I too have a 2000S by the way. I would begin by insepcting the coolant cap as they tend to loose pressure. The last two digits of part number on the cap indicate the version used on your car. My original cap ended in 00 and I recently replaced it with the latest type which ends in 04. When the cap looses pressure you will have a coolant overflow in the right hand rear wheel. If there's no coolant present in the rear trunk / boot area under the carpet then you may well have solved your problem. If there's coolant present then your coolant reservoir tank may have developed a crack. I can't comment on the oil being present in your coolant since I've not run into that issue myself.

yes i have checked the tank and it appears to be ok and so does the cap but it ends in 00 so i gues i will be getting a new 1 but before i need to stop the oil comeing through! I will get all parts together

Failure of the oil to water heat exchanger is not uncommon, particularly if you car has the older “green” Porsche coolant in it. The oil cooler looks like this:



It is located on top of the engine, driver’s side rear, somewhat beneath the intake manifold runners. In the US, the unit sells for about $200. Changing it is a DIY, but you will need to totally drain the cooling system first. The swap out has been written up on many sites, so do a search…….

Good time to change out thermostat to LN Engineering's 160 degree thermostat!

I'd do a compression or blow down test before replacing the cooler.

I replaced my heat exchanger the other day after i flushed the system sevral times my only problem is that i cant all the coolant i have managed to get about 14 litres back in and it was the porsche liquid gold stuff mixed 50/50 just cant seem to bleed the air out does anyone know how to do this is there a bleed scerw on left radiator, I was amazed how easy it was to work on!

There is a bleeder valve under the coolant cap. Click on the link below, and in the middle of the page, there are instructions on how to bleed the coolant system.

Changed out my coolant (OEM) earlier this summer while installing the LN low temp t-stat. After burping it a few times in the garage, I drove the car 125 mi to my WI home with the bleeder open; topped off and it's been fine ever since.
