Dashboad cluster voodoo

Going back and forth b/w kilo and miles each start-up. And some freezing - gas and oil warning lights on with no movement of the speedometer.

A light tap to the top or face of the cluster fixes it for a time. Should I just swap out the cluster, check wiring, any suggestions?

Also for a 2001 cluster - what other MYs will work? Part number?

Are you having any issues with your ignition switch? Similar problems have been seen when the switch was on its way out............

I am having similar gauge craziness on my 987. Factory manual and Durametric with no clear answer.

"communication problems" is about as clear as I can get.

Let me know if replacing the cluster helps.

No other issues....

Ignition was repaired by the dealer several 4 years ago. At the time, the previous owner reported the cluster freezing. But of course didn't fix it.

Anybody know what clusters will wrk with a 2001?

It is morbid, but you can tell what survives in a crash by how low the parts price is at the dis-manterlers. Cluster behind the air bag is always in great shape even if the rest of the the car is totaled.

My gauge cluster started this last week: Light on speedo not lit, one or two knocks on the front and it lights up. Clearly behaves like a loose connector, question is how easy is it to remove? Is it just easier to knock on the speedo of my most expensive vechicle with the silliest of failures?
