they are very similar BUT the ones from the 996 WILL NOT fit 986s. IIRC, 3 out of the 4 holes line up, but the crucial one (furthest in) does not as the piece from the 996s is about 2 inches longer. Remember, the rear wheels on 996s are wider than those on 986. Unfortunately, I know this first hand b/c when I replaced mine Suncoast originally sent me the ones for a 996. Needless to say, that project got tabled for a week or two until the correct ones were shipped.
