Shipping oil

I ordered some Royal Purple oil online from a place in Kansas last week and called to see why my order has not been delivered.
I was told of some new OSHA regulations on shipping oil that took effect a few months ago. They said they were just made aware of these rules recently. I am to receive a refund.
Has anyone heard of these new rules? Just doesn't sound right to me. If there are new rules could it be they just don't want to spend the money to follow them?

Anyone get some Royal Purple delivered recently? I was hoping to change my oil this weekend. Guess I'll just drive it.

Thanks.
mike

Never heard of that, and couldn't find anything on the OSHA website - http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owasrch.search_form?p_doc_type=STANDARDS&p_toc_level=0&p_keyvalue=

Just last week I received 2 qts. of motorcycle oil - imported Italian motorcycle Oil at that (Agip Formula MOTO 4T full synthetic racing oil) from an e-tailer out west, no problems at all.

Thanks Lil bastard. I looked around the web and couldn't find anything either.
Did it come with any special packaging?

Well, it was wrapped in a standard plastic bag like you'd get at a convenience store. It was a 'Malossi' bag, but that's all. The bag was not even taped, just twist tied. It was with some other parts, all in a standard corrugated cardboard shipping box (actuially a reused 'Maxell' box), no special handling or other HazMat stickers on the box or anything. The UPS label didn't say anything about oil or hazardous material either.

This also depends on quantity being shipped and where it's being shipped. Some states consider motor oil as hazardous material. Some don't.

But then again It's been several years since I've dealt with Haz.

We ship oil out on almost a daily basis - first I ever hear of this. Sounds like they didn't have it or didn't want get it for you.

Amazon carries Royal Purple, as well as most other top brands. They'll ship it anywhere. Sounds like the people you were dealing with are goofs.

I'm not famiilar with any new regulations about shipping motor oil. To be honest, I'm not familiar with any old regulations either. I do believe any regulations governing shipment of hazardous or potentially hazardous materials would come from Department of Transportation, not OSHA.

OSHA would have nothing to do with shipping oil. OSHA is concerned with workplace safety. They could care less about what a vendor ships through the mail to a private customer. Now DOT or US Postal might have something, but not OSHA.

I ship oil to Blackstone labs every couple of months and no one has ever questioned it. Likewise, my employer ships probably hundreds of oil sample to a lab each month it has never been a problem.

I emailed Royal Purple and they said they will have their National Retail Sales Manager check them out. They've had no prior issues with them.
Now I have to try and get my money back tomorrow.
