'00 S vs '02 Boxster

Hi guys and gals, first time poster ...

I am looking to purchase my first Boxster and I have found alot of them, but a couple that actually stand out due to price and condition - let alone the low mileage.

The 2000 S Boxter with 5k miles *Extended Warranty Available*

Vs.

2002 Boxster with 11k miles

Both cars are around the $30k, give or take a thousand.

A little unsure on what would be the best choice, but I am looking to get an S over a standard. Please let me know your opinion.

Drive them both, carefully look them over and go with the one that seems to be in better condition. Also, try a carfax and see if they are porsche cert as well.

They are in Missouri and I am in California. I guess it's something I should do, but would prefer not to. They aren't private party's, Porsche Authorized Dealership.

I would vote for the S.

But in this case, I'm voting for neither. I'm not a fan of cars that sit. A 5 year old car with 5K miles is not good. Especially if that 5K miles was put on in the first year and the car just sat out the rest. I'd say look around some more. I actually prefer cars that have impeccable maintenance and are driven 7-10K miles a year. JMHO.

Oh, I didn't see it at first but I would get the S over the newer base model, but I like to as fast as possible.

Just an interesting coincidence here, but I own a '02 Boxster with 11K miles on it and live in Missouri. I wonder if someone is trying to sell you my car?

5K miles on a car that could be almost 5 years old would be cause for concern to me. However, with a thorough check over, it’s probably okay.

Where are the cars? I would imagine either here or KC?

I am located in CA and have two very nice 02 Boxster S' for you to look at and drive before you buy.

BTW-Extended Warranty Available means what in this context?

PS- As a dealer, I would NEVER buy a Porsche that I did not inspect and drive personally. There is no need for you to go to Missouri for a Boxster, we have plenty right here that are pristine and affordable.

If you want to call me pls do so at 760-522-7327.

Bruce is right about not buying a Porsche before you personally drive it. I could have easily found the transmission problem I now have by driving it first... and I'd have negotiated it off the price or passed it up quite thankfully, even though it was expensive to go there and drive it.

If you're going to plop down $30k of your hard earned money, is it not worth $600 (airline ticket, a night in a motel if necessary, and a mechanic's inspection) or so to fly to wherever the car is located and drive it to a mechanic for a checkout?

One trip to the repair shop will cost you more than this. I speak from experience

PS - Buy an S if at all possible! Wish I had the cash to do it, but I did not.
