Evacuating without my Boxster....
I think I'm going to evacuate for Gustav without my Boxster, so please keep your fingers crossed with me that it is okay. I'm going to lock it in my parents' garage which has never flooded. I hate to do it, but my parents are taking two cars, both with automatic transmissions, and driving in evacuation traffic alone in a manual will be horrible. I said I'd never do it, but I'm going to leave my baby behind. :(
|
Yikes! I hope it survives! I would bring it anyways.
|
Take the baby, you have room for the puppies in it. I (and I am sure the rest of us) will be keeping our fingers crossed for ya. Good luck and keep us posted.
|
I know. I'm feeling so guilty about the thought of leaving it. I don't want to jinx myself by saying this, but my parents had two antique cars in the garage that made it through Katrina, so it should be okay.
|
Best wishes to you, your family, and of course that beautiful Boxster. To where are you evacuating?

I'll be going to Zachary, LA, land of excitment! hahaha! |
LB...you be careful out there and be safe, hopefully that everything still in place when you get back and i'm speaking also for everyone that's on the path of hurricane. I do hope that they find shelter on time....
|
Good luck to you, your family, and your Boxster. While you take care of your family, we'll all cross our fingers for your Boxster.
|
Thanks! Think some positive thoughts for my shoe and purse collection I'm leaving behind too. :D
|
Wish you and everyone else down there the best of luck. Hopefully Gustav will blow itself out before landfall.

I hope we don't see news coverage of looters carrying a Boxster through flooded streets. :D jk, hope you baby stays safe.
|
LuvB,
Stay Safe !! Cars and ******************** can be replaced !! People can't !! |
Best of luck. As has been said, cars are just cars. Take care of you and your family.
 |
Get the hell out of there, your Box can be replaced, people can't.
Whatever you decide to do, best of luck to you and your family. |
I'm actually more worried about my brother. He is staying behind. He works for the power company in IT so I think he might be needed for work. Either way, he's staying. But he's pretty resourceful and has boxes of MREs so I'm sure he'll do fine.
I'm getting ready to leave in a couple of minutes. Hopefully you won't see some cracked out looking guy on the news driving a black Boxster with 19" turbo wheels filled up with Heinekens. :p |
First thing that came to mind when I read about Gustav in the news was you and your boxster!!!
I hope you and your family have guns and know very well how to use them. I wouldn't move to New Orleans if someone pay me a million bucks.... ...ok a million bucks plus a few submachine guns and ammo. |
Where is the NRA sticker on your Box. :D
|
I am in the car with my dad right now listening to him sing off key an whistle with the sinatra station while my brother's dog is howling at the top of her lungs. There is an hk 223 behind the seat and im about to go postal
|
is the dog at least howling on key?
stay safe and let us know how things work out. |
The dog is a lot more on key than my dad. It will be a miracle if we get there without my dad rearending somebody. He is so impatient and keeps jamming on the breaks
|
How fast (or slow) is traffic moving? The pictures I've seen don't look like things are moving very fast. How far do you have to travel?
Did you ziplock bag your shoes? |

|
It's'hardly moving at all, like 1 mph. I put my shoes and purses in my dad's'suv
|
I hope it ends well. You should have zip-loc'd the Boxster! We need extra large space bags for cars. That way the water won't ruin good cars.
And try your best not to go postal (Or student). |
Hey Love Bunny,
I wish you safe travels. |
We got out of the bad traffic and have been moving pretty well. As much as i hated leaving my boxster im glad i did. Driving a 5speed in that mess would suck

Good luck bunny, this one will be a whopper!

|
ekam, that is toooo funny.
lovebunny I look forward to checking in tomorrow and Tuesday and hearing that you and your family are fine and your NO situation is fine. Prayers for all of you on the coast. The forecast so far is dramatic. |
L.B.
Glad to hear you got out safely. Trust that your car will be fine. Gustav looks like a whopper though. ekam, Good one! I think I pulled a muscle in my abs laughing so hard. |
I thought of you the other day and I hope your baby survives OK. I had fun in town 2 weeks ago, but I can't say I'm ready to move there!
Patrick |
Hope you, your family and your dog (dogs?) are safe and doing well, LB.
Ditto your Boxster. Along with you, your family and the rest of those affected by the hurricane, it too will be in my thoughts. But NOT the shoe and purse collection...I'll leave THAT to the women of the forum. (Sorry. I'm a guy, ya know---I gotta draw the line somewhere.) |
Ahh, there's my Heineken guy!
Well, we're here in the middle of nowhere in Zachary, LA. I lost my BlackBerry signal when I got here but now I'm able to get on WiFi. Thankfully my mom convinced my brother to evacuate too so I won't be worried about him, just my car. I brought the purses and shoes with me in a big plastic bin. When I was loading it in the car my dad was like, "What in the hell is in here?" We have two dogs with us. Now just waiting to hear what is going to happen with the storm and trying not to go insane staying with my parents and brother and two dogs in a little country house. |
So sad that this has to happen to the most interesting and unique city in this country. I've visited N.O. three times and just love it. The absolutely unbelievable restaurants, the fantastic music (I just love The Subdudes and The Radiators), and the beautiful architecture of the French Quarter! Glad to hear that you are safe! I hope everything works out for you!

I need to Photoshop Mr. Heineken into my boxster with a bunch of beers. |
Hey LB,
Good luck out there and stay safe! Hope everything works out for you and the fams! Take good care. |
