Rear Trunk Doesn't Open

My front trunk (and everything else) works fine - but the rear trunk wouldn't open this morning. I lift the lever and there's no resistance. The key remote also doesn't release it.

Anybody know what's likely the problem and if a person with moderate mechanical skills can fix it himself?

Could be a broken cable, especially with no resistance. That may cause the solenoid to malfunction as well looking at the factory manual.

There is an emergency trunk release cable, separate from the main one which would still work. You may be able to slip a hand under the bumper cover (between the muffler and the bumper) and 'fish' around for it, a steel cable w/ a loop. If not, you'll have to remove the bumper cover to get at it. Either way, in order to fix it, you're gonna have to get inside.

If you pm me with an email addy, I can send you the pages from the repair manual covering replacement.
