SMOG test O.C. CA for moded motor

Has anybody had a moded engine/car smogged in Orange County Ca. lately? Had a good experience? If so, where and, how did you pull it off ( lame or lazy tech, etc...)?

My car sniffs clean but there is no way it will pass a visual. From underneath you could mistake the supercharger for something else. From up top though, the plumbing just would not compute.

Please post or PM if you like (don't want to blow anyones cover) with any leads.

Regards, PK

I'm in San Diego, and both places I've taken my car to do smog at, did not remove the engine cover... If that's the case for you, you should be okay...

Thanks,

A girl on PPBB told me of a place a little south of here. She said her first time there, they gave it a sniff, lifted the trunk lids and called it a day. The next time around they didn't even bother with the trunks...even with the owner watching.

I heard of a place in the same town once before. It apparently had a bit off notoriety, with lots of go-fast cars lined up to take there turn. I think this might be the same.

Regards, PK

I'm in NorCal, so I can't recommend a specific shop for you in SoCal, but I've had my Boxster smogged twice and both times they never opened a trunk or asked to see the motor. They didn't inspect underneath the car either with mirrors, etc. Obviously some shops are just more easy going than others.

There HAS TO BE someplace in SoCal that will pass just about anything. Take a look at ANY of your tuner mags. "Modified", "Euro Tuner", "D Sport", etc. are tuner mags full of highly modified cars and many, if not most, of them seem to come from SoCal. How the heck they get those things street legal is completely beyond me, but they MUST be plugged into a smog shop that will pass anything - even if the engine bay is readily visible.
