Sport Exhaust,,, Can you make it louder?
I have an 03 boxster S with the sport option. It doesn't seem like pressing the dash button does that much to the sound. I can hear something "move" inside the exhaust but the sound seems kind of quiet. Does anyone know if the car defaults to loud mode or quiet mode when it starts up? Is there a way to make this system even louder?

I do not know anything about exhaust, sorry. But what kind of system is that? Where can you get sport buttons?

The exhaust he is talking about is the Porsche PSE exhaust.

I hate to sound chauvinistic but; I believe you just asked a guy ~vs~ woman thing.
Men buy things for different reasons then woman do - it seems e.g. the Boxster.

"why would you want to make your exhaust louder?"
Because the Boxster exhaust sound is pathetic, sounds more like a sewing machine.
Sound is always different to everyone, but any pre-watercooled 911 , sounds like a Porsche. Haven't yet heard a good sounding Boxster, including mine.

Oh come on now, it doesn't sound all that bad compared to what's out there now. Most magazines praise the the sound it makes. Actually, I've never read anything negative about the boxster sound in print except except that some like you say the air-cooled 6 is where it's at. I need to take a ride in a 993 to see just how good it really is.

"sounds more like a sewing machine"
Isn't that the classic 964 sound?
On a Boxster, that's the sound inside with the top up.
If that's the sound you hear, you might need to get out in the breeze a little more.

I've never heard a stock 964 sound as pathetic as a Boxster
I had a 964 street/track car and with a "simple" bypass pipe, it was one of the best sounding 911's around, not necessarily my opinion, but the opinion of many who complimented me on how good it sounded. Under normal driving you didn't know it had been changed, under throttle it had a great tone.
The Boxster top is mostly down with about 8,000 NH miles this summer.
You can never convince me that the Boxster or 996 for that matter sounds like a Porsche, more like my Dad's Buick.
This isn't to say that the Boxster isn't a good car, it is great. It just needs to sound like a Porsche without spending thousands of dollars.

Hey, quit hijacking my thread...
Does anyone have this adjustable sport exhaust of which I speak??? Do you notice a large difference between the two settings? Is there a way to increase the change?
thanks,,,,

Actually the sound of the engine and not the exhaust is fantastic, when you rev it up and hold it as you drive 3000 - 4000 RPM it sounds like music.
It sounds like a turbine...simply beautiful and powerful, it turns heads.

jrummi, I think the lack of response would indicate that few have this option!
You should contact your dealer and ask. Better yet, ask a mechanic at your dealership... they're the only ones who really know what everything does and why!
