Gas prices........

So the higher prices of gas are finally catching up to me. I managed to blow $200 last month on gas......I only go to college,work,the gym daily and occasionally go out shopping and to catch a movie or food. Driving home past the local Chevron I noticed 91 octane is now $3.83/gallon. This is the highest I've personally seen. Is this the highest you've heard of? I'm not complaining cause how I see it,we have it easy,isn't gas in Europe something like $7/gallon?

3.99 is the highest i have seen, that was right next to beverly hills....On my work car 6.0L Chevy V8 i dont even fill up full tank wiht $75 limit on pumps and i need to fill up atleast twice a week. But hey maybe there will be less traffic... :dance:

There's a Chevron station on my way home (I live in San Francisco) that has premium for $3.99 It's been that price for a couple weeks.

Most of our cars depreciate at roughly $0.25 per mile. Even at $4 per gallon the cost of fuel is <$0.20 per mile. If you add in tires at about $0.10 per mile (13k miles and $1,300 for PS2's), then depreciation + tires = $0.35 per mile and almost twice the cost of fuel.

To me, an increase of $0.50 for a gallon of fuel seems small compared to the over-all cost of ownership. ($0.50 per gallon is 2.5 cents per mile.) Not counting insurance or tune-ups the total cost per mile is >$0.60 = fuel + depreciation + tires. But then, I ride my motorcycle during the week and only use cars on the weekend, so I don't buy that much fuel.

Since most of the used Boxsters I see out there are driven far less than 10K per year, gas increases are really pretty insignificant. Let's assume 10K miles per year and 20mpg. That's 500 gallons per year. Increase the price of gas from $3 to $4 per gallon and that's an extra $500 per year or $42/month. If you drive a little smarter (accelerate from stop lights more relaxed and don't tailgate and lift earlier when slowing down) you can probably decrease your fuel consumption by 20%, reducing your yearly fuel costs by $200

I filled up this morning for $3.29 for 93 octane...

I drive several hundreds of miles a week... I get about 27-29 mpg in my Audi...

I have ther same feeling though... could be worse like Germany or somewhere....

Obviously, our gas here in CA is BETTER, as it is much higher in price than in much of the rest of the USA

I paid 3.90 per gallon yesterday, or $55. to fill up.

Having said that, I don't drive all that much and take my MC much of the time (50MPG)., so that helps.

Welcome to an America that is more dependent on speculative and volatile commodities markets (oil, wheat, etc) rather than growing technology and manufacturing industries.
In other words, expect to pay way more for gas, home heating and food.
We are losing our leverage on OPEC to control these costs because we're not the economic power we were even 7 years ago.
Adding salt to the gaping wounds is that foreigners aren't buying US stocks like they used to, first time in a decade that more money is leaving than coming in. American investors are getting out stock funds and pouring money into commodities funds. Dollar is in the toilet against the Euro and Yen. Gold is up big time. These are all the ingredients for a meltdown in the midst of a housing crisis.
The perfect storm....

One analyst said he went to London recently and asked the taxi driver how much he was paying per liter. The analyst gets out his calculator and figures London is paying $10 per gallon for unleaded. That's where we are headed.
Buy up those shares of Exxon, COP, PBR, NOV, VDE,etc..

It is more like $8 a US gallon here, UK gallon is larger. Either way your point is valid. I have an X5 as my daily driver, it takes 97GBP to fill it which is about $190 US. Drives me crazy.

Everytime I fill up the "minivan" (Hah.. 4,000+ lbs of slow ass people mover ; ) ) runs me $50 (its only $3-3.10 for regular) for 16 or so gallons.. Only have to do that 3-4 times/month. Plus another $30-35 per fill for the commuter car (filled 4-5 times per month) so.. about $400/mo on gas.

my x5 (3.0) gets a whopping 11mpg in winter. Luckily my commute to work is 2 miles.

LOL..probably not! I'm the cpa in the group (or one of them anyway) and at the moment I could care less, much less have time, about doing any FUN stuff like calculating the depreciation per mile of our cars! Toooooo many tax returns staring me in the face to worry about gas prices at the moment. But it does look like some of my clients may be seeing an upcharge for fuel. Think they'll buy that??

My 1997 MBZ takes 26gallons and I have to fill that thing up weekly. It gets an average of 15mpg......Whatta HOG!

The Boxster gets filled up about once a month so its really not so bad.

On vacation this week in Maui, I paid $3.92/gallon for 87 octane in the rental car. High octane was well over $4.00.
