Problem with ignition/alarm. Need Help

The problem I am having with my boxster is the car thinks the key is still in the ignition. When I open the driver side door, the sound of "GONG" goes off repeatedly until i shut the door. I checked the owners manual and that means that the key is still in the ignition, which it isnt. This is causing my alarm/keyless entry to not work and the gas/clock lights are continually on causing my battery to drain. When I hit the arm button on my key, the led on the dash will come on until i let go of the button. Anyone experienced this problem or have any idea whats going on? I disconnectd the battery for 20 min and reconnected it but still does the same thing.
