Question Side Intake Difference

While washing my 2 week old 2000 Boxster I noticed that the intake behind the drivers door is different from the one on the passenger side. The lip around the perimeter of the opening on the passenger side is smooth. On the drivers side, the lip has a different angle. Is this normal? I'm hoping this was engineered to enhance the airflow somehow to the engine from the drivers side and isn't a sign of a bad repair. Thanks in advance.
