remove dsp??

I have a 2000 boxster S with the cdr-220 and the upgraded DSP. DSP is too short to search on here. I've seen discussions about switching to the DSP. But can i remove it and just run the 220 on its own? I know there is an amp in the front trunk, hopefully i can still use that. Ideally I'd like to throw in another empty storage pocket in the lower slot of the lower storage section.

The amp will not work with the DSP control unit disconnected. So remove it but leave it connected. Then stick the unit behind the area below the radio.
