It is making an abnormal noise then the normal motor generated noise.
Different then the passenger side.
I measured my drop [MY97] and it seems to be a 10mm drop for me.
I measured from the upper edge of the glass [in the groove] and then the drop.
If I measured from the lip of the window edge it may be close to only a few mm drop.
When you open the door, does the upper window catch on the edge of the roof.
BTW- I would not go to the dealer for a micro switch, a electronics wherehouse would be cheaper. It's only an on/off switch. It's worth a try, personally a surplus store would make it a pennies type deal.
