Radio / Cell Phone Interference

My radio gets crazy interference from my cell phone. Does this happy to anyone else? My cellphone service is with ATT and I have the stock CDR 220 in my car. Is there anyway to stop this?

Thanks,
James

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!

Its not while using it. Anytime the phone gets some type of signal it makes noise from the stereo.

I have an iPhone with AT&T and only once in a great while ill hear "beep beep beep do do do do do do" on my CDR210, it really makes my computer speakers go crazy with all those noises when someone is about to call or when its searching for wireless networks.

Try turning off the wireless internet feature from searching while your in the car... that can cause interference...

I get that all the time with my phone, any time it is near an audio amplifier the WS signal will bleed over and you can hear it through the speakers. Happens in the car, on my desk at work and through the weather radio we have in the kitchen. Annoying for sure.

Is there anyway to insulate the radio from the inside so it wont do this? Freaking annoys the crap out of me. It never did this when I had my aftermarket radio in it. I dont remember if it did this went the car was new.

Have you got a new phone recently? I would consider trying a different phone if possible, they are not supposed to cause harmful localized interference. Does a friend's phones of a different model cause any problems? I'll bet the problem did not exist when the car was new - there have been so many new digital signaling schemes (TDMA, CDMA, EVDO, etc.) developed over the past several years the digital signaling causing the problem today probably did not exist. Working for Motorola, I'm a bit partial toward their phones

PS: Sorry for the big signiture picture, I have not figured out how to scale it down yet!

It seems only phones on the GSM network cause the interference. CDMA (Verizon / Sprint) do not do this. Any phone from ATT & T-Mobile do it though.

You are correct - this is a problem associated with any type of GSM phone. This covers a couple of the big service providers. (AT&T and T-Mobile)

If you have another provider like Verizon or Sprint, they use CDMA and you shouldn't have this problem in your car.

As far as I know, there is no way to stop this interference in the radio, I get it too. Sometimes I'll put my cell phone in the door pocket on the drivers side door and that seems to help the problem. When I put it in the little cubby holder right under the radio, the interference comes through pretty bad on the radio.

funny, I was just having this conversation with a few friends that all have att gsm phones. We all have expereinced the interference from our phones but my boxster with the 220 is the only car that has the problem in my circle. Other cars include a Honda fit, 03 crv, prius, a3 and 04 tsx. Not scientific, but certainly annoying. I might throw an alpine in and see what happens. I actually think the DSP may be the culprit. What is the easiest way to unhook the DSP? And would i need an external amp?

I've got an ATT GSM phone and I had the same problem with my 220. But then again I get the interference with the radios in my other cars.

When I switched to the AVIC in the Box the problem stopped. I don't know why, but I don't hear it anymore. Maybe the system is better shielded.
