IM Nervous

Ok, so my new rims are 18X10 in the rear with 265 35 18, so i got bored and decided just to put the rim on the car, its a 1999. so i put the rim on but i didn't lower it still on the jack. and it looks like there very small space between the rim and i believe the shock absorber with out the tire on. so no im nervous will these rims with 265 35 18 fit on the rear of my car?? or was it because my car was not lowered still on the jack??? sorry guys for so many questions.
