Hey Pteam, yes, that is the part you need... the knob that you turn/touch, just goes in front of this, but this is the actual part that is worn out.
I believe the part number is:
996-613-535-00-M100
same part for the 986/996.
You can get it at your local dealer, pelican parts, suncoast porsche, and many other places...
See if your local dealer can match an internet price for you.

The switch you need is an Audi/VW part, (the Audi logo and part number are stamped on the side of the switch) which, if you get it at the Audi/VW dealer will be significantly less expensive than getting it from the Porsche dealer, or it was when I got mine anyway. Around $35. The Audi/VW part number is 4A0-905-849-B. Very good instructions can be gotten here. http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/ignitionswitchreplacement . or here. http://industryfigure.com/berkeley/Porsche/ignitionswitch.htm Its a little cramped under there but not too bad once you figure out where those darn little screws are and how to hold your left arm jusssssttttt so to get to them. Took me less than an hour start to finish. Be sure to disconnect your battery and be equally sure you have your radio code!

I've got one I'll sell you for $25 plus whatever it costs to ship it to you.
Of course, the issue may be your ignition switch if you haven't replaced it recently. These crap out all the time and affect one or more accessories like headlights, climate control, windshield wipers, etc.
PM me if you're interested.

I believe the Audi/VW switch is the older plastic style switch. Porsche has revised the switch, and the newer one is the one that I posted the link to in my previous post. I just replaced my switch a few months ago with the newer type.

Hey.. it was late, i was tired, and I misread his post as ignition switch!!! gezzzzz My post was purely related to the ignition switch, not the light switch. The part number I posted is the correct one for the IGNITION. I just replaced mine in October with that part number. (however, as someone else posted, when the ignition switch goes out, it affects lots of other systems. Just to add a little in my defense ) Sorry about that. I need more sleep
