headlight switch failure
Hey guys my headlight switch is failing , sometimes I have to turn the lights on then off 20 times before they'll turn on , I tried it with the stock bulbs and its the same thing. I searched and noticed other people had their headlight switch fail also.
My question to you guys is can I buy just the switch like this one -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand-New-Porsche-Carrera-Headlight-Switch_W0QQitemZ130180553805QQihZ003QQcategoryZ426 13QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD6VQQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotoh osting or do I need the switch and the knob like this -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-986-Boxster-996-911-Headlight-switch-with-Knob_W0QQitemZ280170449762QQcmdZViewItem Also would both / either of these work for 01 boxster S? Btw I think I'm gonna sell the box, I dunno I think Im getting bored with it :gasp: looking at a 911 cab speed yellow tip 2002+ I like those headlights, or maybe a turbo cab but I want speed yellow and in tip and I cant seem to find any of those. Thanks! |

I believe the part number is: 996-613-535-00-M100 same part for the 986/996. You can get it at your local dealer, pelican parts, suncoast porsche, and many other places... See if your local dealer can match an internet price for you. |
The switch you need is an Audi/VW part, (the Audi logo and part number are stamped on the side of the switch) which, if you get it at the Audi/VW dealer will be significantly less expensive than getting it from the Porsche dealer, or it was when I got mine anyway. Around $35. The Audi/VW part number is 4A0-905-849-B. Very good instructions can be gotten here. http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/ignitionswitchreplacement . or here. http://industryfigure.com/berkeley/Porsche/ignitionswitch.htm Its a little cramped under there but not too bad once you figure out where those darn little screws are and how to hold your left arm jusssssttttt so to get to them. Took me less than an hour start to finish. Be sure to disconnect your battery and be equally sure you have your radio code!

I've got one I'll sell you for $25 plus whatever it costs to ship it to you.
Of course, the issue may be your ignition switch if you haven't replaced it recently. These crap out all the time and affect one or more accessories like headlights, climate control, windshield wipers, etc. PM me if you're interested. |

Part bought off randall. Thanks guys for all the info!
BTW I just bought another viper 505hp convertible, my GF wants me to keep the box S thru the summer for her, I think I'll keep it for awhile or maybe list it for sale but not cheap and if a buyer doesnt come along for awhile than thats ok. But looks like I'll be keeping it for awhile :) |
