Red face Airbag Light -- Indicating?

I had to go into the RHS door to adjust the window glass forward. In doing so I had to remove the air bag which required disconnecting the -ve terminal on the battery. I also couldn't at first see how to do disconnect the yellow connector for the airbag and in trying I took a purple cover off connector before finding the simple way.( Is this cover on the connector the short circuit spring? If so, I read that it should not be removed but don't understand why.)
Anyway I put everything back OK but the "airbag light " stays on !
I thought the conection to the airbag may not have been made properly but on checking it was OK and there is a voltage at the terminal albeit a fluctuating one.
I may have turned the power on with the airbag disconnected so would this register as a fault that has to be cleared or have I goofed elsewhere?
Chees,
Glenn
