BobZ, your build for the new Boxster S sounds great!
Good job selecting the PSE.
Don't be so quick to put the "Boxster S" badge on the back trunk lid. Going "naked" is very cool. Adds a bit of mystery to the car...and is much easier to wash and wax. If you decide to get one, check out www.bumperplugs.com. A guards red one would be very cool too, if you really want a badge.
Are you sure about black leather interior in sunny Florida? It's gonna be hot hot hot! Sand beige looks awesome with the guards red. The cocoa leather is also very nice if you want something dark.
One more bit of advice. RejeX wax looks amazing on guards red! You should try it. Do it within the first couple days of ownership. I competed in a few Concours events last year, and this one Boxster owner used the RejeX on his GR Boxster, and it looked really-really good.
Bob, are you having the roll bar painted red? Have you considered the red seat belts?
I love spending other people's money!

Bob, one more thing! Can I spend another $290 of your (our) money?
Get the painted Gear Lever Trim in Exterior Color (guards red). This is code CDJ (page 19). Very cool. Here is an example of the Limited Edition in orange:

I got the sport wheel for $250 and I don't regret it; I prefer it's design, I like having the thicker areas at 10 and 2, though I'm not sure the ret of the $250 upgrade wheel is any thicker than the stocker. I do think it's a smaller diameter though, but that info is on the website and in the brochure. I think the one in the 997 with the garish all red interior is a more expensive upgraded wheel that is thicker too.

I like the console surround...might add a splash of Red in the interior and go with the Red guages. And I am sticking with Black interior - Red & Black is my favorite combo (same as the '87 911 Turbo I had as well as 3 of the 6 Vipers I've owned).
If anyone has a pic of the Black $250 option Sport Steering wheel please post it!

I've driven the 987 and 997 cars with and without the sport wheel, and think it is worth it to upgrade to the sport wheel because the standard wheel is waaaay too thin.... even thinner than my 986 3-spoke wheel. I would not want to order a newer 987 without the sport steering wheel.

That Carrera red interior looks really smart, on a white or black Box it would look amazing.
My dad has the Sport steering wheel in his Cayman it is smart, really feels solid.
I would get the creme interior with the red exterior,, really would be 80's Ferrari -tastic.

It baffles me as to why I cannot order a Red Sport Steering wheel with the Black standard interior...Porshe claims that customers can personalize their cars and what I want would simply require to reach into a different bin!

Do you mean this?
Always liked the Ferrari red/tan combo and Guards Red is awesome. I have no regrets. My sterring wheel is the regular one upgraded to "smooth" leather (rim and horn pad) to match dash. Again, no regrets!

Here is a picture of my Steering Wheel. Ordered with the Car. It has all the functions necessary to operate the PASM, PCM & the Music System. My car is a Tip, so it has the Gear Selector Buttons, also on it!
Option Code 435 - Multi-Function St. Wheel with PCM Box S.
Option Code 475 - PASM 987.
Option Code 640 - Sports Chrono Package Plus.

Thanks Nick.....the only thing I would have done different if ordering today would be to add the Bose stereo. The standard one is pretty lame. Most of the time I just turn it off and listen to the music from the engine compartment. I just went over 3,000kms so it is officially broke in and I can now reach the high notes!
I pondered the steering wheel issue for some time in the showroom before placing my order but in the end I just liked the look of the standard wheel better (less plastic), even if it is a little larger.

MAC,
I am suprised about the complaints of 986 /987 owners regarding the stereo ?
My 986 has the "premium audio package" and I think it sounds great !
I have never listened to the radio or a cd in the car, though. It came hardwired for an Ipod when I bought it, and I have never listened to anything else while I am in the car.
Is the sound just terrible when listening to the radio or a cd ? Do you think the Ipod has anything to do why mine sounds so good ?
Just wondering...
Nick

I don't think your iPod has anything to with it sounding good. My iPod actually sounds worse than a CD. But to be honest I think a lot of 986 / 987 owners are overly critical. In comparison to most other car sound system ours is top notch, these are Porsches not Toyotas, or Hondas.
I am no audiophile but I do enjoy a nice sound system, and I think the 986 Hi-Fi is fine and better than most other cars. Unless your ears require a Bose setup, the regular sound system is fine.
Just my $0.02!

Nick,
By "lame", I mean in comparision to what my last auto (Corvette Z06) had, which was an excellent sounding Bose system. It is decent as car stereos go but with no rear speakers it does not sound that great. I don't think the amp makes much power.
Sorry....did not intend to hijack the post!
