Hardtop question

I found a hardtop "shell" Brand new in primer. Only $500. I was told I need to buy some additional parts. Anyone know what parts I'll need and a rough cost estimate?

Here's what you'll need to do if you want to install a "standard" hard top:

If all you have is the shell, you will need a headliner plus the parts of the spinlocks that fit into the hard top itself.

I hope this helps.

If it is the prototype top that I am thinking of, you need a lot... including glass, wiring, spinlocks for the car, the bolts that the locks mount to, healiner, paint, and shipping... Point is, it would be cheaper to buy a lightly used factory top that is made by porsche. Porsche dismantlers emailed me today and had one around 2000, which is high but is cheaper than you will spend on the one you are looking at.

I agree with maxferrari. Here's one for a great price in New England. http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/car/466207105.html Even if you have to paint it to match your car it will be cheaper than buying a shell and finding everything else you need.

I wouldn't do just the shell, I think the rear glass windowns alone sell for like $400.
