Coolant Odor

My 2002 Boxter has the odor of coolant after shutdown. Am not seeing any on the floor. Not in the rear trunk and mat is not wet there. Maybe a radiator cap?

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks.

My 99 is doing that too. It's usually dry, but sometimes spits a little out underneath the reservoir area. Hmmm...

If it gets stronger when you open the trunk then you're looking at a coolant tank. It's an easy repair, but getting to all the lines is a real pain. There is a better write up here: http://986forum.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=122365

Hope this helps..

You probably have a leak on the front of the engine that is dripping on the cover and never reaching the ground. Try sticking your fingers on top of the cover, just about the center of the engine and see if you can feel any crusty stuff up there from evaporated coolant (or drop the cover and see if it's covered with dried stuff)...

Hah, so I did.. Thanks for calling me out on that Blinkwatt..

Here's the real link: http://www.dietersmotorsports.com/tech/tech9-03-2003.htm

It's also important to note that you won't see a wet spot in the carpet per-se. The rear carpet sits up on a platform of sorts, and the coolant typically drips underneath that.

Good luck!

Just bought my coolant tank today! With new cap was $260.00 oem.
Seems like as soon as the weather cooled down, a bunch of us here found leaks.

Porsche gremlins!
