Our new to us 2000 S has a funny cheesey smell coming from the vents. Just got the car home last night an noticed it just after the A/C came on. It lasted about 5 minutes and seemed to reduce in strength as the AC got colder.
I'm sorry I can't help you all too much, but, my guess would be as good as yours: There's something in your vents. Hopefully nothing dead (like a mouse )
Or maybe your car just has a taste of Mexican food
This "sweat sock smell" is typical of any car that's allowed moisture to accumulate in the condenser and mold has taken hold. The AC system removes the moisture from the air and it collects on the condenser. There are some products you can buy that you spray into the vents. It's supposed to kill the mold and might work, otherwise, you're looking at removing and cleaning the system.
To prevent this, run the fans without the AC blowing for a minute or two before you turn the car off. It dries off the condenser.
there is a spray that you can spray inside, i have a link home i can post, hopefully soemone will chime in
