Sorry to see that! I checked into the bumper swap and I think you also have to change the heat shields as well. I'll look and see if I can find the info.

Dude it doesn't look as bad as I thought it was the way you discribed it on the phone.
I have the complete list of all the parts that I needed to do the rear bumper swap at my office. I will post it tomorrow when I get to work. The parts you listed is everything you need for the spoiler. You now just need the bumper and the heat sheilds. I've got it all written down.
Glad you're ok, let me know if there is anything I can help out with.

Cart, I don't think so. There are just over 10,500 forum members now. 1% would be over 100 accidents. I don't think were have read about that many the past couple years. Not even 1/2 that amount (<0.5%).
I did read about one recently about a guy who almost drove through his garage wall!

blinkwatt,
Count your blessings. The rear quarter doesn't look like it was impacted, which is good. Every other part is replaceable easily.
PSM has saved me many times in the wet when I thought I was safe. Best of all, given enough room should I get out of shape, I can turn PSM off and probe deeper the car's limits and fine tune my driving. It's like a co-pilot. Though I don't trust it with high speed stuff yet, it's proven it's worth under ~60.

I still don't like looking at the pics,I just think of how lucky I was not to get injured. I guess I was really out of it when I got out of the car. One of the people that pulled over to ask me if I was alright said I was pure white and I was taking some time to respond to questions. I was just frustrated from the accident, the fact that my car was facing the wrong direction on the freeway and knowing that I won't have the car to drive for a long time. The people of San Jose were really nice,at least 5 different people pulled over to see if I was o.k.
Hopefully some good can come from this.
I had a scratch on the rear driver quarter panel I was gonna get removed in the next month or two prior to this happening. The owner of one of the best body shop in San Jose was there when I limped to Santana Row(destination),he said he would take the scratch out for me when he does the rest of the work. He's a big P-car enthusiasts. I will also have the 03' rear end installed, which I was gonna do in time anyways. Might as well take advantage of occasion.
This is a BIG if,which I doubt will happen but you never know,if it's totaled I will just go get a 00-01' S.

Hi Blink,
Hope it all turns out alright. Let us know how much damage was incurred. I sure hope they can just realign the rear trunk/quarter and no structural/frame damage was sustained. Looked like a bumper shell replacement until you pointed out the alignment of the trunk and spoiler.
Thank god you are ok, it was a pleasure meeting you.

That very same thing happened to me about a year ago. Car hydroplaned out of control. I landed in the same position, but it was with my front end touching the wall. That's why I have the GT-2 front end now. By the way, what part is that laying on the wall? Looks like a fender?

It's a piece of the bumper.

Earlier in the thread there was a question asking if you had PSM. What year was PSM first made available? For some reason I didn't think it was available on the 986 cars. Is that not the case?
Is your car a daily driver? Did it drive normally after the contact?
