thnx for the diagrams mrmickeymouse. Wow I didn't know suck a little drain hole can be a big problem.
|
so how do you guys check the entire drain for blockages? Do you run some sort of wire through it???? In my case, I keep getting water in my driver side door around the speaker, which i think leaks onto the carpet on the driver side floor. The dealer wants 400 bucks to replace my door seal. Screw them.
If I drop water onto the windsheild on the driver side, i see water coming out from under the driver side door. Is this normal? Looks like it's draining water into the door jamb. |
There are 2 drains at the bottom of the door, little slits in the metal. Hard to see because they are hidden by the rubber door seal.
|
cool i'll check those out. I bet my freaking dealer doesn't even have a clue they're there. I'm liking those people less and less.

I couldn't find those drains anywhere. I went around the bopttom part of the door around the seal and only found where the seal plugs INTO the door... So is water SUPPOSED to drain through the inside of the door???? Those freaking morons at HBL Porsche have apperently sealed the whole bottom part of my door panel right under the carpet. I'm planning to take the door panel off myself (found some step by step directions) and find out where water is getting INTO the door FROM. They supposedly already sealed the gasket in the door jamb, and now wanted to replace the seal on the door frame (i.e. the car BODY), not sure how that would ever stop water from getting behind the door PANELS but sure ,they'd make a good amnt of $$. Freaking idiots.
I honestly thought i'd get to like my porsche dealer, but just am coming to realize they're just as dumb as any dealer I've ever dealt with, if not dumber. They broke half the parts on my door panel when they took it off and just kind of re-put them all back in together. |
And now my driver side matt is completely soaked and my car's starting to smell like mold. I'm just thinking i'm gonna dump it and get a nissan again. This frekking sucks.
|
Well good news I fixed the door leak myself. Got some sealant and resealed the door jamb gasket and also removed my door panel and resealed the whole bottom of the insulation panel behind the carpetting including the speaker screws that hold the speaker assembly to the door and it's been leak free!!!!! Knock on wood.

m3 leak
My bmw M3 cab is leaking water bad i havent a clue where its comming from but the blue leather has around 3 inches of water on every dam morning after a heavy rain fall. Its a shame as with 300 bhp i never use it but its handy as it has 4 seats.
any ideas? the boxster takes the garage and the bmw sits on the driveway. |

I'd try placing one end of a large garbage bag under where the top meets the windshield and the other end high up to the rear. If your bag collects water THROUGH the top you might be able to seal the leak with a convertible top sealer. FWIW I have not heard of a Boxster top leaking through the fabric. I think it is rubberized in the middle like those mattress covers for babies. |
yer i will try that, thankyou.
i also see the boxster rubber seal and the bmw dont have that. There again porsche is far better than any bmw. p.s my m3 is around 300bhp + i have never really tested it but it gives my boxster 2.5 a run for its money. I mean when my brother drove my boxster and i drove my m3 i could pull away from 0-100 then the boxster pulled level and left me at 140mph then i was gaining and it was level for ages... i think although the m3 has more bhp the boxster levels up of the weight ratio and quick gear box. with my car blue, the leather blue and i have just installed dvd screens i am a little worried about this CRAZY weather but thanks i will do that trick tomorrow night. i didnt know there was such a thing called cab top sealer, i will get some.. thanks adsach |
unfortunately water leaks are very deceiving when it comes to finding the SOURCE of the leak. Trial and error is your best bet. Get creative, like the bag under the top idea is a good start. In my case the gasket water leak has been a known problem with older Boxsters (the2.5)... My dealer achully "supposedly" resealed it for me (for 200 bucks mind you) and when it still leaked and I mentioned MAYBE trying to add another layer of sealant they said NO and wanted to replace the seal that runs along the frame of the door sill on the car for an additional 400 something bucks. Had I trusted their judgement and gone with it I'd be 400$ short and still leaking... Resealing my door gasket and bottom was step 1 of my trial and error plan. I was lucky enough it worked. Good luck with yer M3. I definitely noticed the boxster pulls VERY well at higher speeds. For a 2.5L engine that's quite impressive I must say.
