I'm not sure if your Turbo kit came with mandrel bent piping; if it did, I find that from outside the car when you get on the throttle, the car sounds like a jet plane sucking in air.
Pretty much a dead giveaway right there! Never understood not having a BOV, even in low PSI cars. I guess when the throttle plate slams shut the air gets fired out the air filter? Not enough charge to cause compressor surge? |
Hi Eric,
Honestly, I've never had somebody revving the car while I stand outside to listen to it. I have revved it while leaning over the engine but off course it's loud with the engine cover removed. I do have the mandrel bent piping. Friend of mine who's experienced at turboing cars did not sound too concerned over me not having BOV given the fact I was boosting 5-6 psi. He has a mean RX-7 3-rotor (turbo off course). Never cared for checking but do you know if they make quiet BOVs? P.S. Do you also carry twins? |

Hi interesting thread, but I have not been able to get the movie to run from your movie page,
Ed  |
video
The file is 8.4MB.
I noticed the windows media player does not display the progress while it is downloading. After awhile it did play for me. Also the footage is in wide screen format... I would suggest to give it a try again. If not I'll have to think of something else... |
Its kinda jacked up, you have to save link as, then open in windows media player

Thanks for the tip!
Here's a pic of the Boxster being aligned.. It was way off line as I removed the suspension to install the lowering springs.. Still not perfectly aligned. Have to go back next saturday for fine tuning. |

so you completely removed the soft top?
how much does the whole thing weigh? did you also remove all the motors and everything from it, or just the top itself? |
Im guessing your car had the factory tonnoue option... I see studs on your dash and on the clamshell. If so, do you still use it.

The tonneau was not factory installed. As far as I remember my father bought it afterwards (from Porsche) and had the reselling dealer here install it.
Have I used it lately.... Question is, have I ever used it. I do have it nicely stowed away in its cover. I swear, I will use it one of these days. Should take a picture of it then! I'm still looking for a model. Do like the fact that my dad bought the car with all these extras on it (like hardtop/sport package). On the soft top. No, I only removed the top itself. I'd like to repair/reinstall it in the future. Perhaps go with the newer glassed top.. We'll see.. I'm actually considering an aftermarket bumper... $$$ (turbo style / e-bay). |
Are you crazy? Get rid of the RUF? wow... Id suggest the GT3 bumper then, I have one. If you like it good enough we can trade. lol. No seriously... Lets trade.
|
Looks awesome, but why do you have a tiptronic steering wheel ?
|
Ohhh no, no.
Surely you can't be serious...
I should have specified, the REAR bumper.. Hehehe. I've seen a rear bumper on e-bay for some time already but recently they dropped the price from around 1.400 to about 1000 usd. Still is a little painful but I may do it. God, no... I'm not changing the RUF front bumper! As for the Tiptronic .. steering wheel... Well, I know... It doesn't match but he.. I looks a lot better than the stock one.. Maybe some day I'll find a use for those buttons... Wishfull thinking.. :o |
Pictures
Just looking thru the pictures....I read about these turbo mods but dont see any pictures of how it is installed, especially the twin turbo...Some of us are not that talented...how about making our mouths water with some photos of the mod itself.....Please
And "Gary in BR" I notice the wheels you have on the car look the same as the ones that are sold on EBAY. Do you like them? How did they fit? Any problems with rubbing? Did you use spacers? And what size tires did you go with... Thanks guys!!! Chris |
details
Hi,
If you run a quick search on this forum looking for "Tale of my Twin" you'll find my previous post which has some more detailed pics of the parts. Unfortunately I did not take the time to make my own step by step documentation on the installation.. Indeed it is not the easiest thing but I found the hardest part right at the beginning (replacing the injectors). After this it was much easier for me. |
