Boxster 98 2.5 Twin Turbo
Here are some better pictures I took this morning.
I have additional info on my previous thread "Tale of my Twin - part I". Showdown against the 2007 Boxster S is still pending. Hopefully this week. See if my Dad is up for it! |
Headlights, then GT3 seats, then carbon fiber stuff.

that looks awesome man, good work. great pics too
|
Very nice car! Great pixs.
|
another pic
this one taken with my phone.
Good old 750i Sony Ericsson. Must say, I'm still learning to drive the Boxster with this new setup. Car is very grippy with wider wheels/tires but yet feels a bit twitchy at speeds and under braking. Oh, and it's quite a bit faster.. I think a need to include a model in the pics. What do you guys think? Besides.. It's a bit silly for passers by to see me taking a picture of just the car.. Hmmm.. |
Hell, I want to see the twin turbo! Pop that cover off so we can see what it looks like in there. :D
|
Twins
Check our my previous post "Tale of my Twin - Part I".
I don't know how to make a hyperlink to other posts.. Anyway you'll find the pictures there. Bottomline is, I'm very happy with it so far. |
So far, so good man, I'm liking the look you're going with. Any plans to deamber the lights?
|
Looks Awesome!!!!
|
We need numbers, now! Dyno that sucker, make us drool! ;)
Video would be nice too, and don't forget the sound, hehe -David |
many plans
Regarding de-ambering the lights...
I have thought of it. I wanted to go for the litronics/clear + rear LED (clear/black), but have paused for awhile with the investments in the Boxster. I still have the dreaded ingition switch to replace (have the new one laying around) and I have to replace my driver side window regulater (also laying around). But before this I need to put my house in shape! |
Ehmm
Ahh yes, yes. Dynoing.. I don't think I'm pulling the 6psi yet as the turbo's come preset conservatively. I have seen it at +/- 5.5 . I don't even have the gauge installed. It's laying on the passenger side for now.
It is a bit dangerous driving at 120 with one hand on the steering while holding the boost gauge in the other and trying to read it (oh and the roads tend to be a little bumpy). I have already recorded some but they don't look that great yet. Don't worry, I'm working on these things. Have mostly just been enjoying the ride ;) . As for the sound.. I guess I could take the top off and record it while revving. Was planning on removing the soft top anyways. |
vIDEO ON BEHALF OF THE FORUM!!!
|
Ask and Ye shall receive.
Well I did it.
Took the hard top off. Struggled but managed to take the soft top off too. Aside from 3 13mm screws (each side) there are also two black phillips head screws you'll need to take off. On the 13mm i suggest a socked and for the phillips you'll need the shortest screwdriver. So far managed to only post a small clip (but very high def wide screen). Will work on the other one, where I rev it all the way. Go to www.speed12.com/movies.htm . Good luck. If there are any problems, let me know. I'm going to sleep now.. |
Clip did not work for me.
I would love to hear your set up. |
Gary do you have the Turbowerx Turbo set up now?
|
Yes I do, my install was done in July.
Its amazing, I have not done a write up yet because I was going to wait until I did the dyno. I hope to get that done this weekend. I can tell you the car is faster than it ever has been, it surprises me how fast I pass cars from 50 and I am doing 90 before I know it, all in 3rd gear. The way it revs from 3000 to redline and pulls the whole way, is very addictive. The wastegate/blow off valve sounds so good i have found myself riding along with out the radio on. I am planning on doing a few videos in the next few days. To add to my Youtube collection. |
Sweet! I look forward to the dyno results & videos.
|
How loud is the turbo whine? I'm hoping there would be little to no whine because I do a lot of commuting with the car and having it whine all the way to work would be annoying.
|
Very minimal
If you are driving with the top down you will faintly hear the turbo's. If you have the top up or hardtop you will practically not hear it (period).
Which is the way I want it too. The boxster 2.5 tends to have a whine by itself (stock). Especially in traffic (slow speeds) I don't think you will notice anything. One extra sound which I have noticed was a slight whirl wind like sound coming from the air intake (left side). This happens when you let go off the throttle. I didn't install any blow off valve. The kit doesn't come with one (although it seems really easy to install). Plus I think once people hear that it will be a dead give away that the car is "charged". I like it being a sleeper. |
I'm not sure if your Turbo kit came with mandrel bent piping; if it did, I find that from outside the car when you get on the throttle, the car sounds like a jet plane sucking in air.
Pretty much a dead giveaway right there! Never understood not having a BOV, even in low PSI cars. I guess when the throttle plate slams shut the air gets fired out the air filter? Not enough charge to cause compressor surge? |
Hi Eric,
Honestly, I've never had somebody revving the car while I stand outside to listen to it. I have revved it while leaning over the engine but off course it's loud with the engine cover removed. I do have the mandrel bent piping. Friend of mine who's experienced at turboing cars did not sound too concerned over me not having BOV given the fact I was boosting 5-6 psi. He has a mean RX-7 3-rotor (turbo off course). Never cared for checking but do you know if they make quiet BOVs? P.S. Do you also carry twins? |

new video clip

Hi interesting thread, but I have not been able to get the movie to run from your movie page,
Ed  |
video
The file is 8.4MB.
I noticed the windows media player does not display the progress while it is downloading. After awhile it did play for me. Also the footage is in wide screen format... I would suggest to give it a try again. If not I'll have to think of something else... |
Its kinda jacked up, you have to save link as, then open in windows media player
|
Thanks for the tip!
Here's a pic of the Boxster being aligned.. It was way off line as I removed the suspension to install the lowering springs.. Still not perfectly aligned. Have to go back next saturday for fine tuning. |
Pics of my sunday morning drive.

Pict of my interior.
|
so you completely removed the soft top?
how much does the whole thing weigh? did you also remove all the motors and everything from it, or just the top itself? |
Im guessing your car had the factory tonnoue option... I see studs on your dash and on the clamshell. If so, do you still use it.
|
answ
The tonneau was not factory installed. As far as I remember my father bought it afterwards (from Porsche) and had the reselling dealer here install it.
Have I used it lately.... Question is, have I ever used it. I do have it nicely stowed away in its cover. I swear, I will use it one of these days. Should take a picture of it then! I'm still looking for a model. Do like the fact that my dad bought the car with all these extras on it (like hardtop/sport package). On the soft top. No, I only removed the top itself. I'd like to repair/reinstall it in the future. Perhaps go with the newer glassed top.. We'll see.. I'm actually considering an aftermarket bumper... $$$ (turbo style / e-bay). |
Are you crazy? Get rid of the RUF? wow... Id suggest the GT3 bumper then, I have one. If you like it good enough we can trade. lol. No seriously... Lets trade.
|
Looks awesome, but why do you have a tiptronic steering wheel ?
|
Ohhh no, no.
Surely you can't be serious...
I should have specified, the REAR bumper.. Hehehe. I've seen a rear bumper on e-bay for some time already but recently they dropped the price from around 1.400 to about 1000 usd. Still is a little painful but I may do it. God, no... I'm not changing the RUF front bumper! As for the Tiptronic .. steering wheel... Well, I know... It doesn't match but he.. I looks a lot better than the stock one.. Maybe some day I'll find a use for those buttons... Wishfull thinking.. :o |
Pictures
Just looking thru the pictures....I read about these turbo mods but dont see any pictures of how it is installed, especially the twin turbo...Some of us are not that talented...how about making our mouths water with some photos of the mod itself.....Please
And "Gary in BR" I notice the wheels you have on the car look the same as the ones that are sold on EBAY. Do you like them? How did they fit? Any problems with rubbing? Did you use spacers? And what size tires did you go with... Thanks guys!!! Chris |
details
Hi,
If you run a quick search on this forum looking for "Tale of my Twin" you'll find my previous post which has some more detailed pics of the parts. Unfortunately I did not take the time to make my own step by step documentation on the installation.. Indeed it is not the easiest thing but I found the hardest part right at the beginning (replacing the injectors). After this it was much easier for me. |
