Wow, they're getting cheap
high miles but I'm just starting to see early boxsters in this range recently...

They are cheap, my '99 Box w/ 17k miles was 19K + tax/license/warranty
|
post-it note yellow w/ a fake burlwood dash, good combo. :barf:
Also, that's the first Boxster I've seen with a power sunroof. |
makes me think of that show on the Bravo channel I was watching last night about the neurotic guy who flips houses. Somebody should buy this foreclosed Boxster, spruce the interior, put on some replica carrera wheels and sell it for $5K more.
|
I've seen many on the local Craigslist.. '97-99, high miles.. $12-14K. Nice low entry for a Bboxster Spec car isn't it!

So if it's automatic, it's not a real Porsche...what about Cayenne  ...hehehehehehehe, just messing with you blkboxster :D :D :D
|
Paul, I have a 98 Tip that will beat your "Real Porsche" in a road race.

A CHEAP price for this in Denmark would be 65.000 US Dollars excl. warranty and insurance. |

I hate sitting in city traffic with my foot on the clutch... I think downshifting with a manual in very quick turns is a pain and with tip I can be much more aggressive and precise! Most people here would have a hard time if they did their very best manual shifting, beating a automatic on a longer track course - but it's this myth that automatic is not a real driving experience. I think it is and seeing how many fake porsches leave the factory with tiptronic it makes me wonder how long this myth will go on, perhaps just one more generation ;) |

Touche! I'd like to see the REAL porsche drivers drive around here in Los Angeles during rush-freaking hour traffic! Let's see if you still wanna keep your manual or trade it in for a Tip faster than you can say Porsche! |

Here's one I would have jumped on when I was looking last year:
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/car/404956001.html |
I can see why the prices are low, it seems to be a slow market for boxsters right now.. Mine has been for sale for a while and I've only had two serious buyers call me... Lots of the "I'll send you a money order for $3000 over..." scams, as well as people who just message with "Is the car in perfect shape, what's your bottom line?" (same scammers, just a different opening).. I figured @ $13,900, it would be attractive to someone looking to get into the PCar market, of course, I'd expect the same for all the cars going under $20k, too...
Meh, I don't mind driving my car for a bit longer, though :) |
Real Porsche owners always live near twisties....

If they were not so expensive to repair, a low cost 97 or 98 with a set of wheels and other little blink would be a very cheap way to look good. :D
I guess the repair costs would drive me off though. :) |
I live near skyline dr./Hwy.35/Hwy. 9/Mt. Hamilton Rd./Hwy. 17 and many more backroads twisties with in 45 mins. drive...and I drive a Tip Boxster :D
throwing a fist in the air and screaming....TIPTRONIC, REUNITE! |
They make the cayenne in 6 speed manual... ive never seen one, but its standard for the base model.
|
after having only 1 automatic car, although it had turbo, i swore that ill never in my life ever own an automatic car. every day that i drove it i asked myself what the hell made me get auto, and i sold it 3 months after owning it....never again, more power to those people who can drive like that, i just cant for the life of me, i wanna fall asleep, im bored, i dont know what to do with my right hand, ahhhh, nightmares all over again...
btw, those who have manual cars, when getting into an automatic car, that being your other car or someone else's, do you find yourself trying to find the clutch pedal? (happens to me every single time) |
i agree with driving an automatic...automatic is just consist of:
P R N D that's boring :) then there's sports shift (Audi) and Tiptronic (Porsche) and SMG, i think (BMW) and Paddle shifter (Ferrari or Lambo?)...that my friend is not boring..hehehehehe! I'm like with DJ here....after driving Tiptronic shifter..I don't see myself driving an automatic :) |
Haha, the manual is addictive.
When not in the box, I find myself using the paddle shifter in my tundra and wife's lexus. |
Automatics are harder to sell, they lose their value quicker....

In america good gas milage and manual shifting (and decent car design, but thats besides the point) is a lot more rare so I guess it's less exclusive. Also in Europe we have loads and loads of Porsches on the market which makes it a very healthy market where you often get what you pay for and an automatic that was more expensive from the beginning will not likely drop below a manual but with approx 5-10 year old cars there are so many factors this is a science. To check this go to mobile.de the biggest car market - search for boxster or 911 from 97-99 you will get a lot of results, sort them by price and notice the majority of manuals in the lowest price range. |
Right now, I live in a rural middle of nowhere area. I would love to have a manual box. However - I came from the suburbs and will probably be returning to traffic jams in the near future. As a result, I happily bought a tippy-box.
I do not know how many of you drive your cars in high traffic areas, but it is incredibly irritating to have a std. transmission in crowded areas! |
From looking over CL and Autotrader it seems like Tips hold value better than manuals generally.
I think this is because most boxsters are getting more miles now and generally the automatics are being purchased by people who don't care too much about total performance, but want a nice cruising car at a good price. Buying a used manual can be more risky if the car has been driven hard IMHO. |

^ That's because everyone is California loves to talk on there cell phone. But shifting, holding a phone and steering while avoiding bad drivers is a bit tricky, in a manual.
|
Of course California Boxsters have more automatics, don't a lot of women and teenagers drive them out there?
Around here, maybe 1 out of 30 Porsche cars are driven by a teenager or woman. |
