HELP!!! Broken Convertible Top!!

hey guys need some help and advice on my softtop...was bringing the convertible top down and heard a pop come from the drivers top...when i went out to look the left/driver side of the top looked off from the right side and it looked like the hinge part that folds over was going to hit the clam shell...raised it up and was able to stretch it out but same thing happened when i tried to lower it...i had to have a friend slowly push the top down while i had to pull the clamshell forward so it could fold underneath.... i'm thinking the cable must have snapped....don't think if was the motor as the top could still move up and down as well as the clam shell but it seemed to be the cable that attached to the left side of the clamshell... has anyone replaced that before?? if so how much did that cost? help please...thanks

There's only one motor and it sounds like it is okay. You probably have a broken top tranmission, broken ball joint or a broken cable. The cables are about $40/each from the dealer.

Here is some more info for DIY.

Sounds like exactly what I just went through. I had the pop, my top stopped just behind the rollbar. I had to replace a broken cable, bent arm that attaches to the clamshell, some various bushings and clamps.

Renntech has a top section with some good info. Gary in NH is the resdient expert over there. I struggled with it for a few days but ended up taking it to a independent shop, not the dealer.

Out the door was $529. Not very pleasant but less than I feared. DO NOT operate the top motor anymore. It can get really expensive if more damage is done.

There is a DIY in the owners manual as well as at Renntech on how to disconnect the arms to safely manually lower the top.
