zeintec hardtop

This thing looks amazing!! I read it used to be 5k about a year ago, has anyone seen then around or someone selling them?

blkboxster 07-12-2007 06:13 PM

imo its trying to look like a cayamn, which i think is a stupid idea.

Boxter 07-12-2007 06:22 PM

I think the opportunity to make your car look that different/updated is outstanding...especially for the DD owners in the northern climates that may have deep pockets. Use the Zeintec for the winter months and switch back for the summer months.

Yes, this topic has been beaten to death but I think it looks great however the price is still too steep.

If they get down into the sub 3k arena they may wind up making some noise given the cost of the stock bubble top.

NickCats 07-12-2007 06:23 PM

I think it looks pretty awesome !

If it was 2999.00 I'd start saving hard for one instead of buying a new glass window canvas top. I'd love a Cayman but don't have the moolah. This would get me very close to the shape for a lot less and still allow me to have a convertible for the few weeks a year it's worth having one here in Sauna City, Texas.

Grizzly 07-12-2007 07:10 PM

I think I might need that. Anybody want to buy an Arctic Silver hardtop? ;)

djomlas 07-12-2007 07:10 PM

they came out w that design before caymen, so if nothing caymen looks like that car, not the other way around

986speedster 07-12-2007 07:37 PM

There is a link to dealers here in the U.S. I think it looks great, is innovative with the hatchback, and as randall stated, best of both worlds. Still too pricey!!

It's cheaper than buying that Cayman you're talking about and you can still have the ragtop for summer. Hmmmmm.

jmabasa 07-12-2007 08:11 PM

Sorry but I think it looks ugly. :barf:
Something just looks wrong with it. Like a Porsche that was made in a Kia factory. :barf:

Uncle Bob 07-12-2007 09:40 PM

Hey, don't be sorry....no accounting for taste!

I fell for the top last year...it hadn't even come accross the pond yet. I had to have a hardtop, so I have a stock one and it's great. I still like the look, but I must agree, I was at the track last week.....this made me drool!!

JCL12 07-13-2007 02:28 AM

That top is pretty darn sweet. I like the cayman-ish looks and the extra side windows. Bye-bye blind spots.

Sadly, I can't justify spending 5,000 on a top for an 01 box.

spgribben007 07-13-2007 05:13 AM

I like the styling of the Zeintec top but it looks like it would take a lot longer to switch from hard top to rag top than my current original hard top which I thoroughly love too.

Well, since you got one, there really is no accounting for taste. :barf:

I guess you don't like the shape of the Cayman then either? Anyone can tell by looking at the Zeintop that it's a basic molded copy from that car, re-fitted and shaped slightly different to fit the Boxster's rear. Look at the lines and shape, there is nothing ugly about it, unless you don't like the look of the Cayman also.

Chills 07-13-2007 09:14 AM

If it were $3k I'd buy one. $5k is too much.

I love the way it looks. Its a big improvement over the OEM hardtop, of which I am not a fan.

986speedster 07-13-2007 09:29 AM

Yeah Grizzly, lot cheaper than springing for the Cayman, but with a 2.5l motor, I'd still have to do an engine swap. Decisions, decisions.

Grizzly 07-13-2007 09:41 AM

Hardtop, engine swap, twin turbos, nitrous, parachute and ejector seat would still be cheaper than a Cayman!

RandallNeighbour 07-13-2007 11:01 AM

Still cheaper, but alas, no way to recover the costs invested. It's like throwing money down a drain when you try to sell that oh-so-zippy Boxster in Cayman clothing.

I do like the look of the Cayman especially when fitted with the Techart goodies but that Zeintop is just plain ugly when put on the boxster. It looks like it wasn't really made for the boxster even though it is. Just my $.02.

Agreed. You have to do what I do. Never sell them.

Man I agree! When I picked up my Boxster they had a Cayman S. I had never seen one, not even a picture. I know the 911 of various years are most peoples prize, but I would rather have one of these one day.

I inquired about the Zeintec top early on so I get emails from them. The last one was the announcement the firt U.S. top was installed and the price dropped from $4999 to $4350..plus freight.

I would take one for $2500 to $3000 but would still have think hard due to the removal of the trunk and clamshell.

Paul 07-14-2007 08:19 PM

Yes and everytime you want to put the top down, not only do you have to remove the hardtop, you have reinstall the clam shell and trunk lid.

Yea that is a downside, But I think this top is freakin awesome, cool way to be unique!

djomlas 07-15-2007 09:23 PM

this is pretty much a permanent solution in my eyes. bye bye vert.

id actually like to see someone doa full on hardtop boxster, velded roof and everything, maybe even a roof off of a crashed cayman, or whatever

i think that the box looks soooo hott with a factory hardtop, or just topdown, but with the rag top , well, not so much, i actually think it looks kinda ugly

I've posted this several times as this has come up. The company in Europe called Stuttgart makes a top that is the same as the Zeintop but allows you to keep the factory trunk lid on at ALL TIMES and does not require you to remove it when you want to put your top down, it works just like the Porsche factory hard-top. Here is a picture of the 2 hardtops next to each other. You can see how one is more elongated than the other.

This top IS the best solution for keeping your trunk and having the look of the Zientop. I think they may have ripped them off on the desing. Either that, or they are owned by the same company. Here is a side view of the Stuttgart Top.

Stroked & Blown 07-16-2007 10:55 AM

That would look great with the Z-Art body kit....but it would probably cost 70% of the vehicle.

I agree DJ, that's why I got the hardtop recently. I like the option of the convertable, just not the look. From now on, it's hardtop or no top. The softtop will only be for pop up showers.

The Stuttgart top looks great, solves the transition to topless issue. The downside...COST! I talked to them and the current cost is close to 6k by the time you get it imported.

Uncle Bob 07-17-2007 06:07 AM

$6K is about what I remember as well for the Stuttgart top. Crap, I paid less than half that for the factory one installed!! I did have my share of problems, however!

Another top, this one is made in England, as I recall. Not too pleasing to the eyes.

That's the EXACT same one as the Stuttgart one. No different, one company must be a vendor, most likely Stuttgart.

Chris_Craft 10-17-2007 07:49 PM

Does anyone have a Zeintop? or has anyone ever ordered or seen any of Zeintec's other products? I'm looking for more info on the quality of the products and feedback on the company. Thanks.

nola911 10-17-2007 07:57 PM

There was a car in the classifieds section a few weeks back with a zeintop. PM the fella for more info.

noone986s 10-17-2007 11:48 PM

A lot of people are ordering them in the UK like this. I love it. White has been a no-no for so long over here and is now super popular again for "sports' cars.

I have been out in a cayman with a PSS9 and LSD update and it goes like hell.

eomak 10-19-2007 05:34 AM

yes, i would like to c too if anyone has had this hardtop.

nola911 10-19-2007 06:12 AM

Maybe we could put together a group buy with zeintop. I am sure they would like to get their name out, and what better way than with forums/porsche clubs? I would do one for 2500-3000 also.

I emailed them about the tops about 3 weeks ago and they take a 50% deposit, then ship the top from over-seas. I do not think US production is in full force yet (if ever), and our dollar goes nowhere over-seas.
