Well, I've had my '07 987s for just 4 weeks now, no plates yet and...you guessed it, someone backed into my rear bumper. The bumperette is falling off, seems like they came in at an angle, so the bumper cover is scratched and scraped a bit, and there seems to be a crease right up near the spoiler, but they didn't get the sheet metal.
My question is, should this go to the dealer [or elsewhere] to make sure the structure underneath the cover is ok, and does anybody have any good recommendations in the SD area [I live in OB] for this type of thing? Possibly a paintless dent removal sort of thing?

It sounds like the damage is not major, so if you go the dentless route or a shop without much Porsche experience you/they might find the following link helpful with regard to the bumperettes.

You live in OB but your location says "Florida"...?

I've been taking my cars to West Coast Specialties for years. They might not be the cheapest, but their work is good. Go by there sometime and you'll see the parking lot littered with Porsches, Mercedes, BMW. They often do restorations and last time I was there they had a Ford GT that they were doing major repairs on.

They did a good job on my Boxster after I got rear-ended.

If PDR (paintless dent repair) will work for the damage, I recommend the dent dude:

Caliber is a franchise; they'd be the lowest price. I brought a honda to the miramar one some years back and was impressed with the quality of work and would defintely consder bringing my boxster to them. Although I imagine the quality from one franchise to the next could be hit or miss depending on the who works there.

Yeah, I am a longtime lurker and wannabe that started lusting for a boxster on my 50th birthday, when I was living in FL. Always wanted a 911 till I drove a 987s in Naples, FL. Now I'm back in Cali, where I grew up [North County].
Anywho...on with the project...If the bumper cover needs to be replaced, anybody have any suggestions? Tequipment...Cayman...etc?

Hey, does anybody know if cayman bumper cover is a direct replacement?
I like the look, jury is still out on whether or not replacement is necessary.
