engine overheating!

[FONT=Times New Roman]Need some advise!

My boxster overheated the other day. I went to put some water in the overflow tank and noticed it pouring onto the ground.

Checked under the car and the water was coming out of this vacuum controled value on rear drivers side area? Its bolted up to this shift linkage bracket on my tiptronic trans. The part is broken as it came out in a couple pieces. Any idea what it is called?? There is no part number listed on it. It's hooked up to two hard coolant lines with a couple pieces of rubber hose. Inside the part, there is a cutoff plate which is vacuum actuated which I think cuts off the coolant flow.

I checked all the websites, I couldnt what this part is. Could this part failing cause my engine to overheat?

Thx
