for vinyl tops its ok. If you like that look.
For canvas tops light colors are a bad move. If you have pollution in your area the acid rain will fade or stain the top. Not to mention its a real hassle to keep clean.
I wouldn't mind seeing a top made of a kevlar type material with a braided carbon fiber look, similar to insualted wiring.
