May have screwed up my car?

Okay, I'm not sure if I screwed up my car or not, but I never noticed my car doing this before. Let me start at the begining. Last week I was doing some drag racing (at the track) and was doing some really good launches with my car. At the the end of the day I noticed a burning smell, like the clutch or could have been a rubber smell, like the Serantine Belt. Definately was not the tires.

This week while driving, I noticed when I am accelerating and want to merge or get more pick up by punching the gas, the car engine seems to rev high before I feel any pick up. It's like a few seconds of a delay. W.T.F. Is it possible that my clutch is going or slipping? How can someone tell if it is slipping. Car was already in gear when this happened and the clutch was not pressed at all. Could it be that I streched the Belt or burnt a flat spot onto it? It feels as if the belt is slipping more than anything, but I'm not sure if that is possible because our Boxsters have the Belt Pulley Tensioner. It almost feels like the cars fuel injection is off a bit with the cars pick up, i.e. acceleration. Could I have screwed up the timing? No check engine lights have come on. I'm having the belt replaced next week as part of it's regular maintenance and hope this will fix the problem, but I am not sure. It's also speratic, and some times does not do it at all. Now I'm worried.

Nope...not the serpentine belt. You have fried your clutch. That is the clutch slipping. New clutch time. Sorry.

And the slipping will only get worse until it totally dies on you, and you won't be able to move the car. The slipping will basically get to the point where you shift into the gear, step on the gas, and you will see the revs go up, but the car won't move anymore. Get it to a shop and have the clutch replaced, and don't use the Boxster as a drag racer anymore...it's not meant for that kinda work.

It sounds like the clutch has gone south. To check, try this: Run the car through the gears to 4th or 5th. At cruising speed, try to accelerate hard. If the car revs but doesn't move (or hesitates before pulling, as you say), you're going to need a clutch.

EDIT: Ha! Boxtaboy beat me to it.

That's what it does. Sounds like I burnt that sucker. That's it, no more racing for me. Would an extended warranty cover this, or is that considered regular ware-n-tare and does not cover the clutch?

Not sure if your extended warranty would cover a wear item like a clutch. New clutch will cost you about $1500 (parts/labor).

Anyone know of the cheapest place to get an O.E.M. clutch. Or anyone know of a better racing one, maybe a high performance clutch that I can upgrade to?

Send a message via AIM to blinkwatt
Hopefully this will save you some money;

http://buyclutch.com/ (give them a call or email them,their site isn't working correctly)

You may want to check and see what parts are required for the clutch replacement to ensure that those 3 parts are all that is needed to replace the clutch.
