Personally I'd still rather fork over the exta $250 in labor and know that Porsche is behind the work and anything that goes wrong is on them...It's a big job I wouldn't trust just anyone. I'm sure you are aware but they will be dropping your tranny.

You can supply them the parts, you don't have to pay what they charge for the kit.

ALL of the dealerships in Dallas told me this: "We can install any part you provide us, we just can't garuntee/warranty the work done if you don't buy it from us." All the other German Mechanic shops in my area WILL use other poeples parts and WILL warranty the work done. Go figure. The only benifit the dealership offered that the other places could not do was the quick turn around. 1-2 days at dealership and 3-4 days at other shops. I gues they just don't have the man power to turn it around that fast.

Wow Dealers in Dallas suck. Maybe my relationship with my dealer is just good and they like to "hook me up"

Well, you may want to ask about the warranty on parts. MOST dealers don't tell you about this unless you ASK THEM. They will just do the work with no questions asked. Then, if your part breaks, all they have to say is that they warranty the work done but not the parts because you did not buy them there, so they cannot be held responsible. It's stupid, but that's how most ALL dealerships work.

Well Porsche warranties the parts they make anyway. My car has only unsed OEM parts anyway. It shouldnt matter if I bought them at the dealer doing the work or from Sun Coast Parts. I will ask my dealer next time.

Are you using OEM parts or aftermarket stuff?

porsche986spyder 05-15-2007 06:21 AM

Parts are from Suncoast. Do they use O.E.M. parts?

It's basicaly like this, let's say you buy a Serantine belt from Suncoast, regardless if it is an O.E.M. part or not, and you have your local Porsche Dealership install the part. They will warranty the work done, but not the part even if it is an O.E.M. part you bought from another location. So if a week down the road it starts to squeek or make a noise and the belt needs to be adjusted you could ALWAYS bring it back, but if it broke, they would not be responsible because you did not purchase the part from them, even though they installed it and warranty the work of the INSTALLATION only. You can go back as many times needed to fix any noise or for an adjustment if it was not installed correct, but not for any other related issue. It's really stupid.

On the other hand, in the past I have brought the print out of other competitors prices with me and showed it to the parts service manager and they will match their prices. But will not match warehouse or wholesale prices. I haven't tried this yet. Will see what happens.
